Stewart-Cousins : “While Mr. Astorino may think it’s funny, it isn’t a joke to the poor and elderly population who rely on these vital services for basic healthcare”
(Long Island, NY) The following statement was released today by New York State Senate Democratic Conference Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins:
“As we seek to cut the burden on everyday taxpayers, we can’t abandon our most vulnerable. In his joke, the County Executive runs the risk of forgetting the people he refers to are our parents, grandparents, neighbors and hardworking New Yorkers across the state. Seniors, who have contributed so much to our society, deserve to live out their lives in dignity. While Mr. Astorino may think it’s funny, it isn’t a joke to the poor and elderly population who rely on these vital services for basic healthcare.
“Every day, government is called upon to address the needs of all the people it represents. Part of the way that happens is by providing a supportive healthcare network that protects the most vulnerable, while enabling hard working people and their families to rise out of poverty.”
