(Long Island, NY) Late last night, the following statement was released by NYS Senator Jack Martins (R-C-I, Mineola):
This evening, the State Senate passed a landmark package of bills in support of women in New York State. It contains nine separate measures addressing issues such as equal pay for women, laws against human trafficking, greater support and protection for victims of domestic violence, sexual harassment, and discrimination of women in the workplace related to gender, pregnancy, and family status.
These are vast systemic issues. We all understand that women’s issues are deeply intertwined and must be addressed in a way that recognizes these connections. This groundbreaking legislation provides stronger legal protections for women and demonstrates our commitment to gender equity and ensuring women are safe and secure both physically and financially.
On a personal note, I am proud to sponsor and support these measures that will improve the lives of women across the state. As the father of four daughters, I certainly want the best for women today and the certainly of an ever more equitable tomorrow. These bills do that.
I congratulate my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for coming together on these issues.
