CHI’s Fresh Start Program Allows the Public to Make Direct Donations to Homeless Families this Holiday Season
(Long Island, NY) In an effort to assist homeless families in New York with their transition to permanent housing, Community Housing Innovations’ (CHI) is launching the Fresh Start program. This initiative will allow the public to purchase tax-deductible Bed Bath & Beyond® gift cards through a toll-free number that will directly benefit homeless families in five counties outside of New York City, including Suffolk County. The program also extends to Nassau, Westchester, Dutchess and Orange counties.
During this kick-off, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone will present the first $100 gift card from Bed Bath & Beyond® to the Harris family of Bellport, New York, which he has personally purchased as a gift for the family. The Harrises, a family of five who have been living in a shelter for more than a year, will see their new, affordable home for the first time on Thursday, December 17, 2015, 12:15 p.m., during the press conference. The gift cards will help the family purchase important household items, such as blankets and linens, dishes and cookware, cleaning supplies, etc.
