(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police arrested a Ronkonkoma woman for drug possession charges and driving with a suspended license after an off-duty inspector witnessed her driving erratically.
Fourth Precinct Commanding Officer Inspector William Murphy, who yesterday began his 40th year of service with the department, was driving in an unmarked vehicle when he observed a woman driving erratically in a Hyundai Elantra northbound on Old Nichols Road, south of Townline Road, in Ronkonkoma.
Inspector Murphy radioed for assistance from officers in marked units and the driver of the vehicle, Stephanie Mupo, 39, of 56 Richmond Blvd. Apartment 4A, was arrested and charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree. She was also issued summonses for using a cell phone as well as failure to maintain her lane.
Mupo was released on bail and will be arraigned at a future date.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
