(Long Island, NY) More than 3,200 runners from 22 states and four countries will be running in the Inaugural Suffolk County Marathon & Half Marathon starting at Heckscher State Park. All net proceeds from the event will go towards enhancing and expanding veterans’ services in Suffolk County.
The Suffolk Marathon serves as a last chance qualifier race for the 2016 Boston Marathon, and is projected to generate nearly $8 million in economic benefits for the region.
In addition to the races being held, a Taste of Long Island Festival, in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension, Long Island Farm Bureau, Project 9 Line, Long Island Music Hall of Fame, and Don Audio, will be held at Heckscher State Park commencing at 9:00am, highlighting the region’s local businesses such as craft breweries, award-winning wines, produce, musical entertainment and much more.
