(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police officers and rescue personnel from the Central Islip-Hauppauge Volunteer Ambulance revived an unresponsive woman in Central Islip on Saturday, April 2.
A woman called 911 to report that her 65-year-old-old mother was unresponsive at her residence on Oak Street in Central Islip at 7:12 a.m. When officers arrived, a family member was performing CPR on the victim. Third Precinct Officers Apryl Hargrove and Amanda Wittemann responded and continued CPR and administered multiple shocks from an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). Third Precinct Officer Brian Magill arrived and assisted with CPR.

Police Officer John McAuley, a member of the department’s Medical Crisis Action Team (MedCAT), also responded and began to provide advanced life support including administering cardiac medication directly through an intraosseous needle inserted into the bone marrow space. McAuley was assisted by the members of Central Islip-Hauppauge Volunteer Ambulance.
Third Precinct Officers Wilson Nieves and Michael Conrad also assisted in the rescue efforts.
The woman’s breathing and pulse were restored and she was transported by members of Central Islip-Hauppauge Volunteer Ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.
