(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory attended the Suffolk Community College Foundation’s 2015 Salute to Excellence Gala on May 7 at the Hilton Hotel in Melville.
The Suffolk Community College Foundation is a non-profit corporation formed to develop additional resources to enable the college to provide quality educational experiences for its students. Scholarship funds constitute the largest single use of the assets of the foundation. Minority scholarships, honors scholarships and awards based on financial need and academic merit are funded by the Foundation.

The theme of this year’s gala was “Financial Leaders Making a Difference.” Among the honorees were Executive Vice President of HSBC Bank USA Bill Brown, Founder of the Long Island Emerging Technologies Fund David L. Calone, Vice President of Commercial Banking and Investment Operations for The First National Bank of Long Island John C. Cochrane, Sr. and Gregory S. Garritano, Founder of G.S. Garritano & Associates.
“On behalf of the Suffolk County Legislature, I applaud the efforts of the Suffolk Community College Foundation, which play a vital role in assisting the College in providing low cost and high quality education to the students of Suffolk County,” said Presiding Officer Gregory. “Working towards allowing access to affordable education for all of our residents is essential to maintaining a thriving county.”
