(HUNTINGTON NY) It’s a holiday week and Huntington Summer Arts Festival knows how to spend it. Don’t miss the 50th Anniversary Celebration for the Huntington Arts Council at 7 p.m. on Wednesday July 3rd. Head down to the park early and enjoy free cake, donated by Reinwalds Bakery. In its 48th year of bringing top performing arts talent to Huntington, Grammy, Emmy and Bessie award winners all summer will hit the Heckscher Park, Chapin Rainbow Stage along with high caliber local and international talent.
Tuesday, July 2 – Disney’s “Camp Rock, The Musical” Based on the hit Disney Channel Original Movie, Plaza Theatrical Productions “Camp Rock, The Musical” will light up the stage with over a dozen songs, including “This Is Me,” “Can’t Back Down,” “It’s On,” and “We Rock.” A classic story of rivalry and power, watch Mitchie rally her fellow Camp Rockers for the ultimate showdown! Tuesday Night Family Series performances begin at 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, July 3 – Huntington Community Band “On Hallowed Ground” Join Musical Director Tom Gellert and the Band as they open their 68th season of summer concerts! This date also marks the 150th anniversary of the U.S. Civil War Battle of Gettysburg with music of this evening focusing on this important event in our nation’s history. Be sure to come to the park early for a celebration of 50 years for the Huntington Arts Council.
Thursday, July 4 – North Shore Pops Concert Band A long-time favorite at the Huntington Summer Arts Festival and across Long Island, the North Shore Pops Concert Band boasts a talented group of musicians performing all your favorite tunes from Sousa to Gershwin, and Broadway to American Patriotic anthems.
Friday, July 5 – Sonic Escape A flute-violin-cello trio that performs ground-breaking original works, arrangements and improvisations crafted from the world’s songs and stories. Don’t miss this performance full of dazzling innovation, superb artistry, and an unparalleled technique that makes it “impossible to believe that there are only three musicians on stage.”
Saturday, July 6 – “The Sound of Music” Plaza Theatrical Productions – Heckscher Park comes alive with the classic Broadway musical of hope and inspiration featuring the award winning score by Rodgers and Hammerstein, will delight audiences humming along with such beautiful music as Climb Every Mountain, My Favorite Things, Something Good, and the title song, The Sound of Music.
Sunday, July 7 – “Kaleidoscope of Dance 1” – The L.I. Dance Consortium (LIDC) is composed of presenters, dance advocates, dance professionals, Arts Councils and dance related studios. This evening’s program will showcase the Long Island Dance Company performing cutting edge choreography, including High Score National award winning routines and featuring Mr. Dance 2013, Nirtya Saagaram Dance Academy performing exquisite classical Indian dances and The Red Hot Mamas, a unique group of professional senior women tap dancers, who will present “Salute to our Troops” in honor of the July 4th Holiday, “Tribute to Glenn Miller”, and “Tappin’ Our Troubles Away”.
The Summer Arts Festival is free and held on the Chapin Rainbow Stage in Heckscher Park, Huntington, at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday – Sunday from June 27th – August 11th. Tuesday evenings are the festivals “Family Series” events and begin at 7:30 p.m. The Summer Arts Festival is presented by the Town of Huntington and produced by the Huntington Arts Council.
