Ad highlights vote last week against climate change amendment; Hits Zeldin positions on terrorist gun bill, reproductive rights
(Long Island, NY) Today, the Anna Throne-Holst for Congress campaign released a new web ad that calls out Lee Zeldin for denying climate change last Thursday when he voted against an amendment before the House Transportation Committee that acknowledged the existence of climate change. The ad goes on to highlight other extreme votes Congressman Zeldin has taken over the course of his first term including opposing legislation to prevent suspected terrorists from buying guns, voting to defund Planned Parenthood six times and cosponsoring a 20-week national abortion ban.
“Climate change is real — but last week, Lee Zeldin voted to deny the science of climate change,” Anna Throne-Holst says in the ad. “In Suffolk County we face real challenges…and climate change is one of them. But Congressman Lee Zeldin just votes down the line with the right-wing tea party agenda. He’s voted to let suspected terrorists buy guns; to defund Planned Parenthood; he’s even co-sponsored a national abortion ban; and now, Lee Zeldin voted to deny the basic science of climate change. I’m Anna Throne-Holst, and I’ve spent my career working to create more opportunities for Long Island families. When I’m in Congress, that’s what I’ll focus on.”
On February 11, Zeldin voted against an amendment to H.R. 4441 introduced by Congressman Jared Huffman before the House Transportation Committee. The amendment Zeldin voted against stated, “climate change is real” and proposed that the leadership of the FAA partner with its international counterparts to reduce greenhouse gasses. See the full amendment here.
This past December, Zeldin voted against legislation cosponsored by fellow Long Island Republican Peter King to prevent suspected terrorists on the no-fly list from buying guns. Zeldin has also voted six times to defund Planned Parenthood and cosponsored a 20-week national abortion ban.
Anna Throne-Holst has been endorsed by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Whip Steny Hoyer, Rep. Steve Israel, Congressman Jerrold Nadler, Rep. Joe Crowley, Rep. Kathleen Rice, Rep. Carolyn Maloney, Rep. Paul Tonko, former Rep. Carolyn McCarthy and EMILY’s List.
She’s also been endorsed by a number of other local elected officials including Suffolk County Legislator Bill Lindsay, Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman, Shelter Island Town Supervisor Jim Dougherty, Assemblyman Fred Thiele and many more.
Anna Throne-Holst is the former Southampton Town Supervisor and a working mother of four children – Nicholas, Max, Sebastian and Karess. She is running for the Democratic nomination to take on Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin.
