(Long Island, NY) Today, Democratic candidate for New York’s 1st Congressional District Anna Throne-Holst was endorsed by former Congressman Tim Bishop at her campaign’s office opening in Medford. Bishop represented the first district in Congress for 12 years from 2003 – 2014 and his endorsement comes as Anna Throne-Holst continues to consolidate support among local and national Democrats.
“I’m proud to support my fellow Democrat and friend Anna Throne-Holst in her campaign for Congress here in Suffolk County,” said former Congressman Tim Bishop. “Over her years in public office Anna has consistently demonstrated her ability to earn bipartisan support. She has demonstrated her ability to work productively in a divided government and has spent her entire career using her position to solve problems, two attributes that our current Congress desperately needs.”
“I could not be more grateful for Congressman Bishop’s support,” said Anna Throne-Holst. “Tim Bishop spent years fighting for working families and small businesses throughout our district and we need to have a representative in Congress again who will actually work to rebuild our middle class, provide opportunities for our children and families and protect a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions.”
Many local and national Democrats are rallying behind Anna Throne-Holst’s campaign including Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, Rep. Steve Israel and a number of other local elected officials including Suffolk County Legislator Bill Lindsay, Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman, Shelter Island Town Supervisor Jim Dougherty, Assemblyman Fred Thiele and many others.
Last week, a poll was released showing Democratic voters in the district back Anna Throne-Holst over her primary opponent by a double-digit margin, 36 to 25 percent. Furthermore, the poll found that when one zeroes in on “high frequency” voters most likely to turn out in the primary election this June, Throne-Holst’s lead grows to a 48 to 22 percent lead.
Anna Throne-Holst served three terms as Southampton Town Supervisor where she turned around the town’s finances and used the savings to invest in working families, public education, new jobs and care for seniors. Previously she served as the director of the Bridgehampton Child Care and Recreation Center, where she launched programs like Head Start and drug and pregnancy prevention programs to help families in need. She is a working mother of four children – Nicholas, Max, Sebastian and Karess.
