(West Islip, NY) Two Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center employees were recently presented with the hospital’s prestigious Bernstein Award. This tribute was established in 1985, in honor of the late Marvin Bernstein, MD, to recognize Good Samaritan employees who embody the same virtues.

Dr. Bernstein personified humanitarianism, compassion and empathy. Hospital employees are nominated for the award by their peers, and recipients are chosen by a committee made up of previous award winners. Martin Podgainy, MD, a friend and colleague of Dr. Bernstein, presented the award to Plant Engineering’s Sean Duffy and Physician Assistant Dorothy Mock, at a recent hospital ceremony.
Sean Duffy is a maintenance mechanic with an endless “to do list.” He tackles all tasks with patience and pride, especially the unique projects since starting at Good Samaritan in 2004. Mr. Duffy’s motto is, “Do small things with great love.” He makes the most ordinary projects extraordinary.
Dorothy Mock goes out of her way to assist all patients with whatever they need. She also uses her skills in her free time volunteering as a missionary in Honduras helping build homes and provide medical assistance and works with underprivileged young women at Madonna Heights helping them get the help they need to stay on course.
Sean Duffy resides in Williston Park and Dorothy Mock resides in Dix Hills.
