Topics focused on what can be done to level the playing field for women on Long Island and make Suffolk County a more affordable place to raise a family
(Long Island, NY) This Saturday, Anna Throne-Holst was joined by U.S. Congresswomen Lois Frankel (D-FL) and Cheri Bustos (D-IL), as well as working women from throughout Suffolk County for a roundtable discussion at the Hotel Indigo in Riverhead on leveling the playing field for working women in Long Island’s economy. The roundtable focused on topics including paid family leave, equal pay, affordable childcare, universal pre-K and women’s small business ownership.
“I’m so grateful to all of the women who joined us — and we are all so honored and grateful to Congresswomen Lois Frankel and Cheri Bustos for joining us for this important discussion on how we can make Long Island a more affordable place to raise a family and to both find and hold a job,” said Anna Throne-Holst. “Combatting discrimination against women in the workplace isn’t just a women’s issue, it’s an economic issue that affects every family’s pocketbook. It’s critical that we do more to level the playing field and break down barriers like a lack of access to affordable childcare and paid family leave that are leaving women and families behind in our economy.”
It’s so great to be on Long Island this weekend in support Anna Throne-Holst, who would be the first woman ever to represent New York’s first congressional district,” said U.S. Congresswoman Lois Frankel (D-FL). “We need more women in the U.S. House of Representatives and particularly women who understand the everyday obstacles women continue to encounter that interfere with their reaching their full potential. Our roundtable discussion put a spotlight on many of these barriers.”
“I’m very pleased to join Anna Throne-Holst for such an important discussion on how we can level the playing field for women on Long Island and throughout our country,” said U.S. Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (D-IL). “Anna Throne-Holst understands we need to do so much more to support women-owned small businesses, make pre-K available to all American families, guarantee paid family leave and finally achieve equal pay for equal work. Anna won’t be a rubberstamp for the Tea Party, she’ll be a voice for working women in Congress.”
“Anna Throne-Holst is a working mom and she intuitively understands the barriers working women in Suffolk County continue to face on a regular basis – particularly the rising costs of raising children here on Long Island,” said Christina Lombardi-Curtin, who is a Brookhaven Democratic Party District Leader and working mother. “I know when Anna is in Congress, she’ll fight to close the gender pay gap, increase access to paid family leave and work to make the costs of childcare more affordable for working moms like us.”
