2013 Award Presented to the Chapter In Recognition of their Activism, Involvement, and Service; This is the 2nd Time the Chapter Has Come Home with this Prestigious National Award
(ALBANY, N.Y.) The University at Albany College Democrats club were named as Chapter of the Year by the College Democrats of America on the final day of their summer national convention.
“We are so excited to once again welcome this honor home to Albany,” said chapter president Jamie Zieno. “This great honor reflects the hard work our members put into electing Democrats and advocating for students each and every day. We owe a great deal of thanks to our friends in the community who support our efforts.”
This year, the UAlbany College Democrats knocked on over 5,000 doors in Pennsylvania, Western New York, and Albany. UAlbany College Democrats also gained recognition across the capital region last fall by registering over 1,500 students to vote. The get-out-the-vote and voter protection program caused over 2,000 students to vote at the university, a campus record. UAlbany College Democrats held successful programs including ‘LGBT Voices in Politics’ where 3 openly gay state legislators visited campus for a forum on LGBT issues.
“I am proud to call many of these young Democrats my constituents and I have worked closely with them on my campaigns, the campaigns of other candidates and issues important to today’s students,” said U.S. Representative Paul Tonko (D-NY 20).
The College Democrats of America are the official youth branch of the Democratic National Committee. From August 1st-4th the College Democrats of America convened in Washington D.C. for a national convention.
