As a public safety initiative, firefighters will be spending the day visiting homes of local residents to install free smoke alarms and discuss fire escape plans and how to avoid fire risks and hazards.
Tens of thousands of home fires occur every year across the country and an average of seven people die and 36 are injured in home fires every day in the US. The Red Cross will announce a national campaign to reduce deaths and injuries from home fires by as much as 25 percent over the next five years across the country.
