(Port Jefferson, NY) The Incorporated Village of Port Jefferson will hold the Fifth Annual Go Green Information Fair on Saturday, November 2 from 12-4pm at the Port Jefferson Village Center.
This popular event is a joint project of the Port Jefferson Go Green, Village of Port Jefferson, Port Jefferson School District and Humanities Institute at Stony Brook University. Here, you will learn ways to protect the local environment as well as the planet.
It is a great time to think about how you can help to sustain our birds and butterflies with Long Island’s native plants. Join us to see the many projects that are going on in the Village, at schools, at homes, and in our municipal areas with many local garden clubs, plant initiative groups, and nature related organizations on hand.
Returning this year, is the Green Elephant table made up of recycled items shared for others to take home. Those wishing to contribute to this recycling gem may contact Barbara Haegle at 631-642-3048.
As a special bonus this year, noted naturalist and author of “Bringing Nature Home,” Doug Tallamy, will give a presentation on November 13th at 7pm at the Village Center. Tallamy will discuss the important ecological roles of plants in our landscapes, emphasize the benefits of designing gardens with these roles in mind, and explore the consequences of failing to do so. This “Port Jeff Live” presentation is sponsored by the Port Jefferson Recreation Department, the Conservancy, the Humanities Institute at Stony Brook, Danfords, PJ School District and PJ Go Green.
