(Rockville Centre, NY) The Village of Rockville Centre says good-bye to a long time employee and member of the Village family, Cleveland Mitchell. Cleveland Mitchell was born on December 30, 1934 to Proctor and Janine Mitchell in Fairmount, North Carolina.

After his high school graduation in 1953, Cleveland Mitchell enlisted in, and served his country, as a member of the in the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1961.
Mr. Mitchell relocated to Rockville Centre in 1955, and has been a member of the community ever since. On December 7, 1957 he married the love of his life Mary Lyons. Through this union of 55 years of marriage two sons were born Chauncey & Barry Mitchell also his two daughters Hilda and Sandra.
Mr. Mitchell became employed with the Village of Rockville Centre in 1968. He worked for 22 years in the Village Sanitation Dept., and retired from his post in January of 1991. He returned to work for the Village at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in October 1991 until Present, where he served the people of MLK as their bus driver.
Mr. Mitchell, along with Diane Archer, also established the Silver Foxes Senior Club for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center. It is still going strong to this day.
“Mr. Cleveland Mitchell’s departure is a happy time, but he will be deeply missed”, stated Patrick Morris, Director of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center. “I, and all of us at MLK, wish Mr. Cleveland and his wife Mary the best as they start a new chapter in their lives relocating to North Carolina.”
