(Long Island, NY) A Northport man who pleaded guilty to running down two Suffolk County police officers critically injuring one of them will be sentenced today (7-23) to 25 years in prison, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.
Chad Morizsan, 35, was driving a stolen SUV last September when he was stopped in Huntington by Suffolk officers Nicholas Guerrero and Heriberto Lugo. Morizsan ran down both men when he suddenly put the vehicle in gear to flee as the officers approached the vehicle. Officer Guerrero suffered severe head injuries and subsequently underwent surgery and a regimen of physical therapy during his recovery.

Morizsan, with his codefendant, Nicholas Franzone, then carjacked another vehicle and stole the credit cards of the 87 year old owner in her Commack driveway. The pair was arrested at a Central Islip store hours later when they attempted to purchase a television with the woman’s stolen cards.
Morizsan waived his right to appeal and pleaded guilty to assault in the first degree, assault on a police officer, leaving the scene, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, robbery in the second degree and forgery.
Franzone returns to court on August 4.
State Supreme Court Justice Fernando Camacho in First District Court in Central Islip will call the court calendar at 9:30 am.
