(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police have arrested a man after he shot another man in West Babylon on Wednesday, August 5.
An ongoing dispute between two groups led to a large gathering in front 4 Lamberta Court. Several subjects became involved in a physical altercation which resulted in a 19 year-old man sustaining a gunshot wound to his leg. The victim was transported by a friend at the scene to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury.

Police responded to the scene after a 911 caller reported shots fired but the suspect and victim had already left the scene. An investigation by First Squad detectives determined that Devon Smith- Martin was responsible for the shooting and he was arrested a short time later.
Smith-Martin, 19, of West Babylon, was charged with Assault 2nd Degree and Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree. He was held overnight at the First Precinct and was arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
