(Long Island, NY) The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Westbury man on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 6:45pm in Westbury.
According to Detectives, defendant Gabriel Taveras, 33, did verbally threaten physical harm against the sixty-two year old female victim and her family. The defendant was arrested on Lion Lane; he resisted arrest and received a minor injury to his wrist. The defendant was treated and released for a sore wrist. The investigation led to Officers receiving a Court ordered search warrant of the defendant’s home where multiple rifles, a handgun and ammunition were recovered.

Defendant Taveras is charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, four counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, three counts of a Weapon 4th Degree, one count Obstructing Governmental Administration, Aggravated Harassment and Aggravated Unlicensed 2nd Degree. The defendant will be arraigned on Thursday, September 10, 2015 in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
