(Mineola, NY) The Working Families Party released these statements today announcing the party’s enthusiastic endorsement of Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice for Congress in the 4th Congressional District.
“Nobody will work harder in Washington for our district’s working men and women than I will. I’m proud to have earned this endorsement and I look forward to continuing to stand alongside the WFP’s members as we fight together for social and economic justice, and for a fairer and more more transparent political process,” said Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice.
“Kathleen Rice has been resolute in her fight to take on a corrupt culture of pay-to-play politics in the state and give average New Yorkers a voice,” said Bill Lipton, State Director for the Working Families Party. “As a prosecutor, she has a proven record of delivering bad apples to justice and she’ll bring that same determination to her work on behalf of Long Island’s working families.”
“It’s a record to stand by–during her time as the Nassau County District attorney Kathleen Rice has been a strong advocate for racial justice in her support for Raise the Age, and for better government by calling for clean and fair elections,” said WFP’s Long Island Political Director Jess Carrano. “Her unwavering focus on reducing the influence of big money in politics is only matched by her commitment to bringing home good jobs to Long Island.”
The Working Families Party is New York’s grassroots progressive political party. WFP has won statewide increases in the minimum wage, a landmark green jobs program, and reforms to the state’s Rockefeller drug laws. In New York City, the WFP recently won a three-year long campaign for paid sick days; the Council has passed a bill that will guarantee paid sick days to an estimated one million New Yorkers.
