(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Wyandanch man in Wheatley Heights on Friday, March 18.
Deronne Lawrence was driving a 2008 Honda northbound on Straight Path, approximately 90 feet north of Half Hollow Road, when his vehicle veered in the southbound lane striking a 2013 Jeep head-on at 6:45 a.m.

Lawrence, 19, of Wyandanch, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The driver of the Jeep, Paul Gimelli, 31, of Dix Hills, was transported in serious condition to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip by Wyandanch-Wheatley Heights Ambulance. Wyandanch Fire Department also responded to the scene.
The vehicles were impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this crash to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
