Senator Lee Zeldin: Demos Ad Riddled with Lies and Gross Inaccuracies
(Long Island, NY) Senator Lee Zeldin, Conservative Republican candidate for Congress in New York’s First Congressional District, just released the following statement in response to a new campaign advertisement by George Demos, which was riddled with lies and gross inaccuracies.
“S2600E-2013 does not provide EVEN ONE DOLLAR of state funding for Obamacare. Shame on those who think they are entitled to make up their own sets of facts in life.
George Demos’ new campaign advertisement is an irresponsible lie and should be pulled from the air. You know it’s campaign season when George Demos reappears in the District with his nasty slash and burn negative campaigning. As someone who grew up here and is raising a family here, I can tell you that the voters of the First Congressional District are tired of these false attacks and will reject George Demos yet again.
I have learned in the military and as a State Senator, that some people put a higher value on integrity than others. I proudly led the successful fight, along with my Senate Republican colleagues, to block the legislation implementing Obamacare in 2012. I then successfully led the fight, along with my Senate Republican colleagues, to prevent the insurance exchanges from being created in that year’s state budget. Governor Cuomo then unilaterally created the insurance exchange in New York by Executive Order in April 2012. This grossly inaccurate ad is referring to federal funding, which was received as a result of that Executive Order, which must be accounted for in the state budget. The vote being desperately distorted was an omnibus appropriation of a portion of the approximately $48 billion the federal government spends on federal programs in New York State. This was money sent by the Obama administration to New York after Governor Cuomo unilaterally established New York’s Insurance exchange by Executive Order. Again, S2600E-2013 does not provide ONE DOLLAR of state funding for Obamacare.
This sums up just about everything that is wrong with politics today. You have people who place absolutely zero value on honesty and integrity.
The Demos campaign needs to immediately fact check their new campaign advertisement and replace it ASAP with something that isn’t a blatant lie.”
