(Long Island, N.Y.) On Wednesday, October 13, 2010, The Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) and QVC once again joined forces for the 17th Annual QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale,” an annual gala and charitable shoe sale to benefit breast cancer research. Fergie appeared in the QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale” public service announcement running in September and October issues of top fashion magazines. This year Celebrity Recording Artist Fergie is the face of this year’s call-to-action campaign and event.
Viewers tuned into QVC on Friday, October 15th from 7PM to 10PM EST for the charitable shoe sale of more than 100,000 pairs of shoes sold with net proceeds to benefit this vital cause.
In recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness month, QVC, the Fashion Footwear Charitable Foundation, and the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) joined forces to raise money for breast cancer research and education. This year during the three-hour broadcast from QVC Studio Park (with footage from QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale” in New York City), QVC featured thousands of pairs of designer shoes at half the suggested manufacturer’s retail price.
With more than a million pairs of shoes sold since the first benefit event in October 1994, QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale” this year is expected to bring the cumulative total proceeds to over thirty four million dollars. Through funds raised from this event in past years, a groundbreaking nationwide network of prominent breast cancer research centers have been developed. Each of the selected facilities concentrates on finding a cure for breast cancer.
The beneficiary hospitals for 2010 are: the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the Women’s Cancers Program at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Breast Oncology Program at University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Research Center of Washington University, the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins, the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, and the John Wayne Cancer Institute Breast Center at Saint John’s Health Center.
This year the event was a tremendous success. The footwear industry and celebrities mingled and shopped in the designer shoe salon and Chaka Kahn performed to support the cause. The FFANY Jodi Fisher Humanitarian Award was presented to Sidney Kimmel, Founder and Chairman of Jones Apparel Group and Ron Fromm, Chairman and CEO of Brown Shoe Company, Inc. The FFANY Jodi Fisher Humanitarian Award is dedicated to the memory of Jodi Fisher who passed away in 2009 after a valiant battle with Leukemia. Jodi was the visionary Co-Founder of “FFany Shoes on Sale” an active advocate for this cause from it conception. Jodi’s passion and vision continue to inspire others and has left a tremendous legacy in the constant quest for a cure for breast cancer.
The 17th annual QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sales began with a reception at the Frederick P Rose Hall Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City.
Celebrities that came to give their support included Actress Angie Harmon, Businesswoman and Model Ivanka Trump, Broadcaster Joan Lunden, Actress Doris Roberts, Soap Star Linda Dano, Figure Skater Johnny Weir, Cast of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Taylor Armstrong, Camille Grammer, Lisa Venderpump, Kyle Richards, Kim Richards and Adrienne Maloof, Recording Artist Chaka Kahn and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
