(Long Island, NY) A 30-year-old East Islip man convicted of aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated driving while intoxicated, vehicular manslaughter, speeding and reckless driving will be sentenced in First District Court in Central Islip today (Wednesday, May 20), Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.
On May 4, 2014 Charles Koukalenios was driving his Camaro north on Carleton Avenue when he crossed over into an oncoming lane, struck a center median and collided with a southbound 2002 Buick Century. The driver, 84-year-old Mary Rogalle of Central Islip, was pronounced dead at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore,
Tests of his blood found Koukalenios had a .13 blood alcohol level four hours after the crash.
State Supreme Court Justice Fernando Camacho capped the defendant’s sentence at five to 15 years in state prison during Koukalenios’ plea on March 11.
