(Long Island, N.Y.) A sixty-two-year-old woman from Hempstead was found dead Sunday morning at roughly eight-thirty. The woman was found in the driver’s seat of her car in a parking lot in Lynbrook. The vehicle was a 1991 Toyota Corolla, which was parked in front of a medical complex on Merrick Road.
The parking lot also contained a chain of stores and was partially covered by an upper level. The woman’s vehicle was parked underneath a medical office. She was discovered by a Lynbrook Village Police Officer during his patrol of the area.
After the officer discovered the woman it was determined that she suffered from a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene minutes later, and had apparently succumbed to fatal head trauma. Reports stated that the officer originally believed the woman was intoxicated or ill when he saw her in the vehicle.
Reports also stated that the woman was discovered without identification, and no names have been released to the press. A connection has not been publicized between the woman and the registered owner of the vehicle. Authorities on the case could be withholding information until family members of the deceased are notified. The investigation is considered ongoing, making it likely for authorities to limit the release of details.
Those handling the case are urging anyone with information to contact Nassau County’s Crime Stoppers, and assure that all tips will remain anonymous. The police officer who discovered the woman contacted members of the Nassau County Police Department. Reports stated that the car and body were quickly removed from the parking lot for further examination.
In another story, a man was found wounded near Wyandanch Park at roughly a quarter-to-six Sunday evening. He was discovered after police officers responded to calls of multiple gunshots heard in the area. While no victim was found, a twenty-one-year-old man was treated for a gunshot wound to the hand after being taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip.
Roughly four hours later a twenty-one-year-old man was shot inside his vehicle at Harrison Avenue in North Amityville at a quarter-after-nine on Sunday. He was found inside a Chrysler Sebring and suffered from a gunshot wound to the lower back. At least four shots had been fired.
Detectives from the First Squad are handling the case and reports stated that the man was discovered near his home. The victim’s father drove him to the hospital after he managed to make it to his house. They allegedly waited for an ambulance during the drive after being advised to do so by an emergency response operator.
The twenty-one-year-old was also taken to Good Samaritan Hospital and has been listed in stable condition. Police are asking people with information to contact Suffolk County’s Crime Stoppers. It is unsure whether the cases are related.
