(Long Island, NY) Second Squad detectives report the details of an arrest for an assault that occurred in Levittown on Sunday, 12/27/15 at 6:00 P.M.

According to detectives, James Slattery, 18, Levittown, was involved in a verbal argument with a male victim, 40, while at a residence on Chimney Lane. The defendant struck the victim with a wooden club on his neck causing him to fall to the ground and then struck his several more times about the body.

Nassau County Police Ambulance transported the victim, who sustained abrasions, bruising and a concussion, to a local hospital for treatment.

Second Squad detectives arrested Slattery on Tuesday, 1/05/16 on Chimney Lane. He is being charged with Assault 2nd Degree and will be arraigned on Wednesday, 01/06/16 in First District Court, Hempstead.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The suspect walked around the retail counter and stole two gold necklaces from the showcase. He then walked out of the store and fled in a blue four-door sedan.

A man entered K-Mart, located at 2280 North Ocean Avenue, on December 24, 2015 at approximately 4p.m. and stole two comforters and a child’s toy. The suspect is described as a white male in his late 30s to early 40s with black hair and a beard. Hewas seen exiting the store parking lot in a silver Lexus.

The credit card had been stolen by a man during an armed robbery of a person on Great Neck Road in West Babylon approximately 30 minutes before the card was used.

(Long Island, NY) Senator Ken LaValle’s statement concerning the Governor’s proposed increase in the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) budget to $300 Million for 2016:

“I am fortunate to represent one of the most beautiful regions of the State.  Throughout my Senate career, I have made it a priority to preserve and protect our fragile environment.

As an architect of the Pine Barrens Preservation Act, the Carman’s River Watershed Protection Act, the Community Preservation Fund (CPF) and other legislative measures, I have worked to protect the East End’s environmental treasures.   I am pleased to learn that the Governor’s budget proposal will include a substantial increase in the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF).   The increase would be of great assistance in confronting the issues, which threaten our lands and natural resources that are so critically important for Long Island.  As we move forward, we must also provide adequate funding to ensure the quality of drinking water in our region.

As the budget process begins, I look forward to developing the strategy to achieve our environmental goals through increased EPF funding.”

NY Congressional candidate Anna Throne-Holst condemns armed takeover of federal wildlife refuge by militants in Oregon

(Long Island, NY) Today, former Southampton Town Supervisor and current Congressional candidate Anna Throne-Holst condemned the heavily-armed militants who are currently occupying a federal wildlife refuge building in Oregon.

“The armed takeover of a federal building by heavily-armed militants is shocking and goes against everything we as Americans stand for. These militants need to be condemned in the strongest possible terms” said former Southampton Town Supervisor and current Congressional candidate, Anna Throne-Holst.

Congressman Lee Zeldin has so far been quiet on the armed takeover that has dominated national news headlines. Last year, Zeldin tried to downplay the fact that he met twice with the Oath Keepers, an extreme right-wing militia group notorious for espousing anti-government conspiracy theories that are “embraced by the extreme right.” The Southern Poverty Law Center described the group as “particularly worrisome.”

“It’s no surprise that Zeldin is quiet about the armed takeover of a federal wildlife refuge building in Oregon by a group of militants, earlier this year he tried to downplay meetings he had with a right-wing militia group known as the Oath Keepers. This continues a disturbing pattern of Zeldin refusing to call out right-wing extremists” said Throne-Holst.

Throne-Holst went on to state, “Long Island voters deserve to know whether Zeldin would stand up for law and order or once again side with the fringe of the right wing. One thing is clear – Zeldin’s silence says a lot about his real priorities and how out of step he is with the rest of Suffolk County.”

Zeldin recently was the only member of the Long Island Congressional delegation to oppose a bill that would stop terror suspects from buying guns.

Since entering office, Zeldin has embraced numerous fringe Republicans who share little in common with the priorities of Long Island.

Last year, Zeldin defended House Republican Whip Steve Scalise in the wake of reports that he previously spoke at a white supremacist rally organized by former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke. Zeldin has also praised Donald Trump for his “politically incorrect leadership” and refused to comment on Trump’s recent proposal to bar all Muslims from entering the United States.

Anna Throne-Holst is the former Southampton Town Supervisor and a working mother of four children – Nicholas, Max, Sebastian and Karess. She is running for the Democratic nomination to take on Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin.​

(Long Island, NY) Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, C – NY-1), member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, today announced that he will introduce the “Counterterrorism Screening and Assistance Act of 2015” in the House of Representatives.

The Counterterrorism Screening and Assistance Act of 2015 would establish a plan to close security gaps that currently exist that allow terrorists and foreign fighters to travel internationally. The plan would establish international border security standards that would be developed in coordination with all relevant U.S. Government departments and agencies in consultation with the Secretary of Defense, Attorney General, Director of National Intelligence, and Director of the FBI. Under the plan, U.S. resources would be utilized in the most efficient way possible with a special focus on high-risk and medium-risk countries. Under this legislation, a reporting system would also be established to monitor efforts of foreign governments to combat terrorism and foreign fighter travel and to suspend foreign assistance to countries not making significant efforts to comply. Furthermore, the legislation would put a monitoring system in place that would screen for infectious diseases to contain and prevent any potential outbreaks.

Congressman Zeldin said, “The vulnerabilities that currently exist with international security abroad pose a concerning threat to our homeland. The development of international border security standards is critical. With the rise of terrorism at home and around the world, it’s essential that we work together as a global community to monitor and stop the movement of terrorists. This measure is long overdue. I strongly encourage my colleagues in Congress to swiftly pass the Counterterrorism Screening and Assistance Act of 2015.”

Instead of wasting time attacking the President’s modest, reasonable actions, I hope Republicans will finally tune out the NRA, act responsibly, and work with us to craft bipartisan legislative solutions that can help prevent us from losing 30,000 lives to gun violence each year.”

Pianist Philip Edward Fisher is widely recognized as a unique performer of refined style and exceptional versatility Mr. Fisher has toured extensively across his native United Kingdom, Italy, Austria, Denmark, Switzerland, Norway, Kenya, Zimbabwe, the Ukraine, and the United States.
