(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Central Islip on Sunday, March 13.

Stacey N. Innocent, 18, of Brentwood was driving a 2005 Toyota Highlander northbound on Route 111 near Chestnut Street when her vehicle struck a pedestrian who was walking eastbound across Route 111 at Chestnut Street at 9:35 p.m.

The pedestrian, Luis Alfredo Rios Arevalo, 49, of Brentwood was transported via Brentwood Legion Ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.

Innocent was not injured. Her vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this incident to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.

(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police have arrested a man for driving while intoxicated after he was involved in a crash that critically injured a motorcyclist on Sunday, March 13.

Ronald Starke was traveling eastbound on North Country Road near Mountain Ridge Drive on a 2003 Indian motorcycle when he was struck by a westbound 2002 Subaru Outback operated by Yokito Yoneyama.

Starke, 60, of Mount Sinai was transported via Port Jefferson Volunteer Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital where he is in critical condition.

Yoneyama, 36, of Rocky Point, was transported via Port Jefferson Volunteer Ambulance to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson where he was treated for minor injuries and released. He was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this crash to contact the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555.

(Long Island, NY) The First Squad is investigating a Robbery that occurred on Saturday March 12, 2016 at 4:00 P.M. in Roosevelt.

According to detectives, a male victim, 14, was in the vicinity of 2 Centennial Avenue when he was approached by a male black subject that demanded his bicycle. The subject threatened the use of a gun, but none was shown.

The victim complied and the subject fled westbound on Centennial Avenue towards Nassau Road on the bicycle which is described as BMX style, black and red in color.

The subject is described as 5’8”, thin build, 18 years of age wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and grey sweatpants. No injuries were reported.

Detectives ask anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police have arrested two people following a fight outside a Bay Shore bar that resulted in multiple injuries on Sunday, March 13.

Third Precinct officers responded to Coopersmith’s Pub, located at 615 East Main St., at approximately 3:10 a.m. after a fight broke out in the parking lot. A 35-year-old man was slashed with a box cutter in the face and ear and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

During the fight, Ronald Ashley attempted to leave the scene and in the process struck four people, including the man who committed the slashing, with his vehicle, a 2015 Toyota Corolla. Ashley then drove into the parking lot of 605 East Main St. where he lost control of the vehicle and struck a pillar. Ashley, 27, of Brentwood, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and four counts of Assault 3rd Degree.

Paul Wells, 28, of West Babylon, was charged with Assault 2nd Degree for the slashing and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Wells will be arraigned at a later date.

The three other people who were hit by the Corolla suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

(Long Island, NY) The Homicide Squad reports the details of a fatal vehicular accident that occurred at 8:50am on Sunday, March 13, 2016 in Wantagh.

According to Detectives, a white colored 1996 Toyota Camry operated by Preston Stockman, 60, of Wantagh was travelling east on Jerusalem Avenue just west of Campbell Road when for an unknown reason the vehicle entered into the westbound lane and struck a white colored Buick operated by a fifty-seven year old female from Levittown.

The operator of vehicle two was transported to a local area hospital for minor injuries. The operator of vehicle one, Preston Stockman, was transported and pronounced at 9:36am by Dr. Olsen in the emergency room of the Nassau University Medical Center.

Both vehicles were removed from the scene for brake and safety inspections. There is no criminality at this time.

(Long Island, NY) The First Squad reports the details of a Robbery that occurred at 6:05am on Sunday, March 13, 2016 in Roosevelt.

According to Detectives, the male victim, 28, and the male witness, 27, were standing next to the victim’s vehicle that was parked in front of the In and Out Deli located at 498 Nassau Road. The two males were approached by two unknown male suspects and after a few minutes a physical altercation ensued over a cell phone and the victim’s cell phone was then taken away from him.

The victim fled the scene on foot after the suspects motioned to have a weapon, however none was displayed. At that time, the suspects ordered the witness into the victim’s vehicle and the suspects entered the vehicle as well. A short time later, the victim returned to the scene and was ordered into the vehicle.

All four individuals then drove off in the victim’s 2014 Nissan Altima, color blue with a NY registration of HEJ-4257. The victim and witness were able to flee the vehicle in the vicinity of Milburn Avenue and Harold Avenue in Hempstead. The I-Phone 6 and vehicle have not been recovered. No injuries have been reported.

Suspect one is described as a male black, tall, short cropped hair, a mustache and wearing a black sweatshirt.

Suspect two is described as a male black, short, a mustache and wearing a black jacket, black skinny jeans and a red colored Detroit Red Wings hat.

(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police on Sunday, March 13 arrested a Northport man for driving while intoxicated following a crash that seriously injured his passenger.

Michael Powell was driving a 2002 Subaru westbound on Sunken Meadow Road when he lost control of his vehicle, east of the intersection of Kohr Road, and struck a tree at 3:09 a.m.

Dennis Clancy, 24, of Kings Park, Powell’s front seat passenger, was transported via Suffolk County Police Helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital where he is listed in serious condition.

Powell, 28, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and is scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.

Powell’s vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.

(Long Island, NY) The Fifth Squad reports the details of five (5) arrests for Attempted Robbery that occurred on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 7:00 pm in Franklin Square.

According to detectives, a male victim, 15, was walking near the corner of Semton Boulevard and Hempstead Turnpike, when he was approached from behind by a group of unknown male subjects.  The subjects forcibly threw the victim to the ground, demanded money and began hitting him about the head.

The subjects then searched the victim pockets, but after finding no money fled the scene on bikes and on foot westbound Hempstead Turnpike.  The victim returned home and called the police. He refused medical attention. There were no proceeds.

While on routine patrol two (2) Fifth Precinct Officers observed five (5) male subjects fitting the description of the above subjects on the corner of Lexington Avenue and Hempstead Turnpike.  A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Robert Fragoso, 16, of West Hempstead, Justin Johnson, 16, of West Hempstead, Paul Tribie, 16, West Hempstead and two (2) fifteen year old male juveniles. It was discovered that the two (2) 15 year old juvenile defendants had in their possession a Vipertex stun gun and a gravity knife.

Defendants Fragoso, Johnson and Tribie are being charged with Attempted Robbery and will be arraigned on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at First District Court, Hempstead.  The two juvenile defendants are being charged with Attempted Robbery and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4^th Degree.  They will be arraigned at Nassau County Family Court on Saturday, March 12, 2016.

(Long Island, NY) For the 20th consecutive fiscal year, the Village of Rockville Centre has been awarded the prestigious “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting” by the Government Finance Officer Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The recognition is for the Village’s comprehensive annual fiscal report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

When the COA is awarded, an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement is also presented to the individual designated by the government as primarily responsible for its having earned the award. This has been presented to Michael Schussheim, Comptroller for the Village, who worked closely with the auditors to assure that the Village’s financial reporting met very high  standards.

“I am thankful to the staff of our Comptroller’s Office, led by Michael Schussheim, for their efforts to be up-front and accurate in the way they report the Village’s financial information,” commented Mayor Francis X. Murray. “This award reflects the value this Village’s government puts on transparency for the benefit of our taxpayers.”

The CAFR is judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story. The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.

(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Mastic on Friday, March 11.

Rajan Fenner, 36, of Bellport was traveling southbound on Titmus Avenue just north of Montauk Highway when he apparently lost control of a 2002 Suzuki motorcycle and struck a 1984 Chevy Monte Carlo that was stopped in traffic.

Fenner was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, by Mastic Ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Monte Carlo, Richard Smith, 38, of Mastic, was not injured and stayed at the scene. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.

The investigation is continuing.
