(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the death of a man who was killed in a North Bay Shore shooting on Sunday, January 17.

Third Precinct patrol officers responded to the area of Heckscher Avenue, just south of Prospect Place, after a ShotSpotter activation indicated that several shots had been fired at that location at 12:06 a.m. When the officers arrived, they discovered Marcelo Argueta Chicas, 44, of Bay Shore, who had been shot one time by an unknown suspect.

The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS (8477). All calls will be kept confidential.

(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred in Wyandanch on Saturday, January 16.

First Precinct patrol officers responded to a 911 call reporting that a man had been shot in front of 265 Nicolls Road last night at approximately 8:45 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found Raheem Campbell, 21, of Wyandanch had been shot in the abdomen.

Campbell was transported via Wyandanch/Wheatley Heights Volunteer Ambulance Corp to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses reported that an unknown male attempted to rob Campbell at gunpoint and, although there was no struggle, the man fired the gun, striking Campbell in the abdomen. The gunman reportedly fled in a white Jeep Liberty.

Less than seven minutes later, Police Officers Joseph Scariolo and Michael Finnerty observed a vehicle matching that description traveling on Brooklyn Avenue in Wyandanch. When the officers attempted to conduct a vehicle stop, the Jeep pulled into a driveway on Brooklyn Avenue and both occupants fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, both suspects were taken into custody. Police searched the vehicle and a loaded semi-automatic handgun was recovered.

The suspects, Bobby Green, 25, of Central Islip and Avery Palmer, 16, of North Amityville, were charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree. They are being held at the First Precinct and are scheduled to be arraigned this morning at First District Court in Central Islip.

(Long Island, NY) Fourth Precinct officers report the arrest of a Hewlett Bay Park woman for an incident that occurred on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 10:45 pm in Hewlett Bay Park.

According to officers, after receiving calls for a loud party at a residence on Cedar Avenue and responding to the scene; officers observed numerous underage youths, between 75 and 100, consuming various types of alcoholic beverages.

An investigation at the residence led officers to the host of the party, Michelle Lankri, 20, of the same address. She was then placed under arrest without incident.

Lankri is charged with violating the Social Host Law, was issued an Appearance Ticket and is due to respond in First District Court, Hempstead on 02/10/2016.

(Long Island, NY) The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of Lashawn Pierre, 20, of Elmont in connection with an Attempted Bank Robbery that occurred on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 5:35 in Franklin Square.

According to Robbery Squad Detectives, Pierre walked into the Chase Bank located at 654 Franklin Avenue displayed a black handgun pointed it at the victim and demanded cash. The subject was shot by an armed plainclothes security guard.

Pierre was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. There were seven employees and 8 customers present at the time of the attempted robbery.

Pierre is charged with Attempted Robbery 2nd Degree and was arraigned bedside at the hospital on Saturday, January 16, 2016.

As our country and our county take on the demands of the coming year, let us not forget our fates are tied into what Dr. King called “a single garment of destiny.” On occasion, some grave event will remind us of how interconnected we truly are: the horror of Sept. 11 and the devastation of Superstorm Sandy both brought out the best in us. Living on an island also engenders an inevitable sense of community. Bound on all sides by water, millions of us have managed to share an alarmingly finite space.

Eighteen legislators will undoubtedly disagree on the best way to build a stronger Suffolk County in 2016. We must balance another budget; restore confidence in our police department; and work to strengthen and expand our middle class. As we confront each challenge, I urge my colleagues to remain cognizant of Dr. King’s “inescapable network of mutuality.” Simply put, we share each other’s future.

(Long Island, NY) The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Westbury man for a Robbery that occurred in Westbury on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 5:40 am.

According to detectives the defendant Lyndon Q. Hawkins, 51, entered into a McDonalds located at 35 Old Country Road and demanded cash from the 58 year old female cashier and stated he had a gun. After the cashier complied the defendant Hawkins fled on foot east on Old Country Road with an undetermined amount of US currency.

Third Precinct Police responded and shortly after hearing a police broadcast of the defendants description officers were able to locate the defendant running through the alley way of the Pines Motor Lodge located at 101 Taylor Avenue. After a brief chase on foot Third Precinct Police Officers were able to place Lyndon Q. Hawkins into police custody.

There were no injuries reported. There were no customers and four employees present at the time of the incident. Proceeds were recovered. No weapon was displayed.

(Long Island, NY) The Highway Patrol Bureau reports the arrest of a Westbury man for DWI that occurred in Hempstead on Saturday, January, 16, 2016 at 3:08 am.

According to police, a Highway Patrol Officer observed Juan Aristires Alvarenga Ortiz, 34, operate his 2006 Toyota erratically travelling north on Peninsula Boulevard A subsequent stop of the defendant’s vehicle revealed the defendant was operating under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.

Additionally the defendant’s 7 month old daughter was present restrained in a car seat in the rear driver’s side. The driver Juan Aristires Alvarenga Ortiz was placed into police custody and the child was released to her 26 year old mother who was a front seat passenger. No injuries were reported. The defendant’s vehicle was impounded.

The defendant is charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Intoxicated 1192.3, Driving While Intoxicated 1192.2, and numerous Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. He will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday, January 17, 2016.

(Long Island, NY) The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of a Rosedale woman for Grand Larceny that occurred in North New Hyde Park on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 3:35 pm.

According to Crimes Against Property Bureau detectives, between December 1, 2013 through December 11, 2015 the defendant Rosalyn Persaud, 34, did work as an Executive Assistant for North Shore LIJ Perioperative Services located at 1979 Marcus Avenue and stole in excess of $50,000.00 US Dollars.

The defendant had access to six JP Morgan corporate credit cards belonging to Northwell Health employees and used four of the corporate cards without permission to make purchases for her own personal use. The defendant Rosalyn Persaud also made false entries into business records documenting the purchases.

An investigation led detectives to her residence on January 15, 2016 and placed her into police custody without incident. There were no injuries reported,

(Long Island, NY) The Major Case Bureau is investigating a Robbery that occurred on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 3:40 am in Valley Stream.

According to Robbery Squad detectives, an unknown male subject entered the 7 – Eleven store located at 190 North Central Avenue and approached a 60 year old male clerk. The subject displayed a large knife and demanded the clerk open the register for cash.

After the clerk complied the subject fled on foot north on Central Avenue after taking an undisclosed amount of US currency, cigarettes, and scratch off lottery tickets. There were no customers and one employee in the store at the time of the incident. There were no injuries reported.

The male subject is described as being black, 5’8” tall, thin build, gray hooded sweat shirt / “Victory” written on back, black gloves, dark scarf around face.

Detectives request that anyone with information regarding this crime to contact the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

(Long Island, NY) The First Squad reports the details of an arrest of a Huntington man for Burglary that occurred on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 5:40 PM in East Meadow.

According to detectives, 911 received a call for a burglary in progress at a Francis Drive residence. Upon police arrival a 43 year old male victim stated that he saw an opened front window and heard someone inside the house.

Officers from the First Precinct observed the defendant, Rony Compere, 43, in a Chevrolet Tahoe in front of the residence. The defendant fled scene on foot through rear yards and was placed into custody in the rear of a Brisbane Lane residence. There were no proceeds at this time.

Defendant Compere is being charged with Burglary 2nd degree and Criminal Trespass 3rd degree. He was arraigned on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at First District Court in Hempstead.
