(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Fourth Squad Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating three women that stole sunglasses in Lake Grove in May.

On May 19 three women in their 20s entered Macy’s located at 313 Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove and stole Versace and Prada sunglasses worth more than $3,000 from the Sunglass Hut counter within the store.

The first woman is described as black, approximately 5 feet 2 inches, with a thin build and waist-long hair. The second woman is described black, heavy-set and approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall. She was wearing a white shirt with pink sleeves, light-colored pants with a stripe and she had her hair up in a bun. The third woman is described as black with a medium build. She was wearing jeans, a dark-colored hoodie over a white shirt.

A man and woman stole 13 copies of Microsoft Office from Microsoft, located at 160 Walt Whitman Road, on March 15 between noon and 3 p.m. The stolen merchandise has a value of approximately $1800.

(Long Island, NY) The Homicide Squad reports the arrest of a Hempstead man on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at 1:45am in Hempstead.

According to Detectives, the female victim, Neyvin Espinal, 24, of Hempstead was found dead, by a slash to the neck, in her home by her roommate at 4:00pm on Saturday, June 20, 2015. The investigation led to the arrest of defendant Alan R. Espinoza, 26, of Hempstead.

The defendant is charged with one count of Murder 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th degree. He will be arraigned on Monday, June 22, 2015 in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.

(Long Island, NY) The Fourth Squad reports the details of an arrest for Unlawful Imprisonment that occurred on Saturday, June 20, 2015 in Cedarhurst.

According to detectives, defendant Yan Kossa, 39, of Far Rockaway was worshiping at the Chabad located at 74 Maple Avenue when he approached a 7 year old female victim and asked her if she wanted to come outside with him. The defendant led the victim outside and placed her into his automobile.

The defendant then returned to the Chabad and notified the child’s father what he did. The child was found safe inside the vehicle which was parked down the street from the Chabad.

(Long Island, NY) The Public Information Office reports the details of an arrest for Driving While Intoxicated/Leandra’s Law that occurred on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 10:45 pm in New Hyde Park.

According to police, 911 received a call for a three vehicle auto accident that occurred at the intersection of Covert Avenue and 11th Street. Upon police arrival, defendant Timothy McAleavey, 52, of Stewart Manor was observed being unsteady on his feet, glassy eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected on his breath. The defendant was placed under arrest at the scene.

Also three children ages 1, 2 and 4 (not related) were seated in the rear of the defendants’ 2003 Ford pickup truck at the time of the accident. There were no reported injuries. The children were released to the mother who was inside the automobile at the time of the accident.

Defendant McAleavey is being charged with 3 counts of Aggravated Driving Intoxicated -Leandra’s’ Law, 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Intoxicated, Excessive Tinted Windows and 3 counts of Rear Passengers under the age of 4 Unrestrained. He will be arraigned on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.

(Long Island, NY) The Major Case Bureau reports the arrests of two Elmont men for Grand Larceny and Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument that occurred in Hicksville on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 4:25 pm.

According to Crimes Against Property Squad detectives, New York Community Bank Security Officers observed via camera the defendant Paul A. Webster, 25, using the ATM machine located at Waldbaums, 336 North Broadway, Jericho and in possession of multiple credit/debit cards. The defendant was using the cards that contained account numbers from other institutions and withdrawing money in order to enrich himself.

New York Community Bank Security officer’s also observed a second defendant Owen Johnson, 27, using the ATM machine located at 100 Duffy Avenue, Hicksville and also had in his possession multiple credit/debit cards from other institutions withdrawing money to enrich himself. Second Precinct Police were called and responded and observed defendant Paul A. Webster using the ATM and placed him into police custody without incident. Second Precinct Police Officers were also advised that a second man involved was walking on Newbridge Road near Duffy Avenue. Police responded and also placed defendant Owen Johnson into police custody without incident.

A subsequent investigation revealed that the defendants parked their Audi at the Long Island Train Station parking lot located at Duffy Avenue and Newbridge Road. Officers recovered multiple credit/debit cards and an undisclosed amount of US currency from inside the auto. There were no injuries reported.

Paul A. Webster is charged with 6 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument. Owen Johnson is charged with 10 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument and Grand Larceny 4th Degree. Both were arraigned in First District Court on Satrurday, June 20, 2015.

Will Permit Local Governments to Transfer Real Property to Town Trustees at No or Reduced Cost through July 2017

(Long Island, NY) Senator Ken LaValle, (R-Port Jefferson) and Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (I, D, WF-Sag Harbor) announced that the Senate and Assembly have approved their legislation (S.5913/A.8183) which extends the expiration of provisions which defines the Trustees of the Freeholders and Commonalty of the Town of Southampton, the Trustees of the Freeholders and Commonalty of the Town of East Hampton and the Trustees of the Freeholders and Commonalty of the Town of Southold as municipal corporations for the purposes of Section 72-h of the General Municipal Law.

In 2013, Senator LaValle and Assemblyman Thiele passed legislation (Chapter 387 of the Laws of 2013) which added Trustees to the list of municipal corporations who could receive land transferred from local governments at no or reduced cost under Section 72-h of the General Municipal Law. Previously Section 72-h permitted land transfers only to County’s, Town’s, Village’s and Fire Districts.

Because of the Legislators efforts, the Southampton Town Trustees were able to acquire a four acre beach parcel on Fantasy Drive from Suffolk County which overlooks Reeves and Flanders Bays. Under the ownership of the Trustees, this beach will remain a viable access point for residents and could also serve as a much needed depository for sand dredged from navigation channels.

This new legislation extends the expiration date from July 31, 2015 to July 31, 2017.

Since the Senate and the Assembly have both approved the legislation, it will be transmitted to the Governor for consideration.
