(Long Island, NY) Fourth Precinct police officers report the arrest of an Oceanside man for driving while intoxicated with a child in the car, while in Lido Beach on Monday, 09/07/15 at 4:34 P.M.

According to officers, Shawn Buschor, 40, was observed on Lido Blvd./Loop Pkwy., operating a 2010 Toyota sedan while intoxicated. Seated in the rear of the vehicle, was the defendant’s girlfriend’s 6-year-old daughter. The child was released to family members.

No injuries were reported.

Buschor is being charged with Aggravated Driving Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), Endangering Welfare of Child, two counts of DWI, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, two counts of Aggravated Unlicensed Op Vehicle 3rd Degree and Unlicensed Operator. He was arraigned on Tuesday, 09/08/15 in First District Court, Hempstead.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

(Long Island, NY) Featuring rarely seen works, including large figure paintings, monotypes and pastels, “Pat Ralph: Under the Radar” opens with a reception in the Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery of the Art League of Long Island on Sunday, September 27, from 1 to 4pm, and continues through November 1, 2015. A gallery tour, led by the artist, will be held at 7:30pm on October 22.

Trained at the Art Students League in New York, Pat Ralph has lived on Long Island most of her life. She is a realist painter with a diverse body of work that includes landscapes, portraits, self-portraits and still life paintings. While Long Islanders know her mostly by her landscape paintings, this exhibit reveals a history of figurative work shown mainly in New York City and university galleries around the country.

Ralph has had solo exhibits at the Fine Arts Gallery at Southampton College, the Fine Arts Gallery of Suffolk Community College in Selden, Gallery East in East Hampton, Gallery North in Setauket, the Heckscher Museum at the Bryant Library in Roslyn, and Noho Gallery in New York City. She also was given a solo exhibit as part of the Mary H. Dana Women Artists Series, at Douglass College, New Brunswick, NJ, and another at Douglass, as it celebrated its 75^th anniversary.

Ralph’s works have been included in group exhibitions at the Heckscher Museum in Huntington, Silvermine Guild in New Canaan, the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, OH, the Fine Arts Gallery at Southampton College, the Mason Gross Center for the Arts at Rutgers University, the Parrish Art Museum, the University of Delaware, the Fine Arts Gallery at Southampton College, San Jose State University in California, and Pace University Gallery, Marymount Manhattan College and the National Academy of Design, all in New York City.

In 1985 Ralph had two paintings, both of which will appear in “Under the Radar”, in an exhibition titled “RAPE”, originating at the Hoyt Sherman Gallery of Ohio State University and travelling for three years to nine university galleries, plus the Philadelphia Arts Alliance. Most recently, her painting Heading West was featured in “75 @ 75: Treasures from the Collection” at the Long Island Museum in Stony Brook to commemorate its seventy-fifth anniversary.

Her work is also included in two publications­­––Long Island Landscape Painting: The Twentieth Century by art historian Ronald G. Pisano, and 100 Artists of the Mid-Atlantic by E. Ashley Rooney. An article, Rape: Show and Tell, by art critic Lucy Lippard, appeared in In These Times, a monthly magazine of news and opinion out of Chicago, in December 1986.

Of her paintings, Beryl Smith, in her Women Artists Series catalog essay, wrote “The timelessness and crystalline quality of her landscapes reflect her interest in light and atmosphere.” Malcolm Preston, in Newsday, remarked, “Her work is in the new realist mode––cool, objective, sharply realized. There is about them a directness and forthrightness uncluttered by sentiment.” Of her work Pat Ralph has said, “In my paintings I seek a stunning image, expressed with clarity and augmented with hints of mystery or wit. My landscapes reflect an interest in light and atmosphere. I am particularly intrigued by the singular light of early morning or late afternoon or evening––the hours in which natural effects are most fleeting, which makes the attempt to capture the moment fraught with paradox.”

(Long Island, NY) As the 14^th Anniversary of the September 11, 2001 Attack on America approaches, Rockville Centre Mayor Francis X. Murray announced today that the Village of Rockville Centre will be holding a Candlelight Vigil to honor all those that were lost on that day.  The Vigil will be held on Sunday, September 20^th at 7:00 p.m. at the 9/11 Memorial on the Village Green in Rockville Centre.

Mayor Murray stated, “Rockville Centre was one of the hardest hit communities on Long Island. We lost 48 members of our Village on that day.  It’s important to take time to remember their lives and all they left behind for us.  Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with their families and loved ones.”

(Long Island, NY) The Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICADD) received more than $2,000 in donations from friends and family members in memory of Nicolette, who passed away from an overdose at 20 years old.

(Long Island, NY) A Hempstead Town Councilman, a Nassau County Legislator, an attorney for Nassau University Medical Center, a Nassau Planning Commissioner and a local photographer/businessman will demonstrate Wednesday night that they do more than make serious policy and tough decisions: they also make Rock and R&B music.

Hempstead Town Councilman Ed Ambrosino (R-North Valley Stream),  Nassau County Legislator Vincent Muscarella, Nassau University  Medical Center Attorney John Ciotti , Nassau Deputy Planning and Economic Development Commissioner Jon Crist, along with local photographer and business owner Steve Orlando, and Patrick Owens, an aide to the Hempstead Town Board, will  perform as a band. “The Dogs of War,” Wednesday, September 9, 2015, 7:30 PM at the Brokerage Comedy Club in Bellmore to benefit the American Legion of Elmont. Tickets will cost $15.00, and all net profits will be donated to the Long Island veterans group. The group will be playing Rock and R&B tunes.

The group plays benefits only, and the part-time musicians have honed their crafts over the years. Crist is lead vocalist and a guitarist; Ciotti is a drummer;  Muscarella is on guitar and Orlando is lead guitar; Ambrosino plays keyboard and guitar and Owens is a bass guitarist.

Some of their favorites are songs from Marshall Tucker, the Beatles and Clarence Clearwater.

(Long Island, NY) Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,I –South Huntington) recently joined the LIONS Center for the Blind for their third anniversary celebration. This year’s anniversary was nautically themed, taking place on a paddle boat which departed from Bay Shore Marina. Lupinacci wished the many senior citizens “bon voyage” as they departed for their three hour excursion at sea.

“The LIONS Club is so devoted to expanding opportunities for both senior citizens and the blind members of our community.  Let us celebrate the third anniversary of a commendable organization whose successes are evident on the happy faces of each participant today,” Lupinacci opened.

Schneiderman: I Am Committed To Stopping The Unauthorized Practice Of Law And Protecting New Yorkers From Fraud By Enforcing Immigration Service Provider Laws

(Long Island, NY) Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced today that his office reached an agreement with Entertainment Visa Consultant Company (EVC) and its CEO, David King. This agreement will resolve the Attorney General’s investigation of EVC and King which revealed that King engaged in the unauthorized practice of law while providing immigration-related services, and failed to comply with New York City and New York State laws that require immigration service providers to comply with certain advertising guidelines, signage, contract and surety requirements.

“Unlawful immigration service providers can have devastating consequences on unsuspecting applicants, leaving them worse off than before they sought help,” said Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman. “Entertainment Visa Consultant Company was shut down because it was an unlawful operation.  I am committed to stopping the unauthorized practice of law and protecting New Yorkers from fraud by enforcing immigration service provider laws.”

“United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) places a high priority on combatting immigration services scams,” said USCIS Director León Rodriguez.  “For vulnerable immigrants, the wrong help can hurt.  USCIS will continue to work with the New York State Attorney General’s office and other partners to educate the community about how to avoid immigration scams and to empower them to report those who take advantage of others.”

New York State law prohibits a non-lawyer from practicing immigration law or providing legal advice of any kind unless supervised by an attorney, or where they are accredited by the federal Board of Immigration Appeals.  Immigration Service Providers under New York City and State law, therefore, may only provide clerical services, such as translating or mailing documents.

The Attorney General began an investigation of EVC after receiving information indicating that from 2012 through 2015, EVC was processing hundreds of temporary work visas for foreign entertainers and submitting these applications to the federal immigration authorities.  The OAG’s investigation revealed that neither King nor any of the staff of EVC are licensed to practice law in the State of New York, and EVC is not an organization accredited by the Board of Immigration Appeals.

The OAG’s investigation also revealed that King and EVC failed to comply with all of the requirements of the New York State and New York City immigration service provider laws. Specifically, the OAG found that King and EVC failed to:

• provide clients with written contracts that include certain disclosures and information;
• make adequate disclosures to customers alerting them of their contract cancellation rights; and
• secure and maintain a sufficient surety bond.

The settlement agreement:

• requires King to permanently dissolve EVC and terminate its operations in NYS;
• prohibits King from operating any immigration services company in the future;
• requires King to provide notice to EVC’s customers regarding the dissolution while urging individuals to contact an accredited organization or an immigration attorney; and
• requires payment of a $20,000 penalty to New York State.

Attorney General Schneiderman thanks the USCIS United States Citizenship and Immigration Service Fraud Detection and National Security Division for their valuable assistance in this investigation.
