(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and detectives from the Town of Riverhead Police Department are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the woman who burglarized a Riverhead business two months ago.

A woman broke into Snowflake Ice Cream Shoppe, located at 1152 West Main St., on June 23 at approximately 11:25 p.m. and fled the store without proceeds.

(Long Island, NY) The Second Squad reports the arrest of a Hicksville man on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 12:05 a.m. for Robbery in Hicksville.

According to detectives, a male victim, 22 years of age, was waiting for a ride outside Sears located at 195 N. Broadway on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 7:25 p.m. when Angel M. Sanchez, 17, approached him along with an unidentified male black and female black.

A brief argument began which escalated into physical altercation in which Sanchez began to punch the victim. The other male subject joined Sanchez and threw the victim to the ground. Both continue to punch and stomp on the victim while the female subject filmed the incident on her cell phone. Sanchez took the victim’s cell phone, keys, and a work knife before they fled on foot through the parking lot. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.

On Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 12:05 a.m. Sanchez surrendered to Second Squad detectives in Woodbury. He is charged with two counts of Robbery 2nd degree. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at First District Court in Hempstead.

(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police have arrested a Middle Island man for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs after his vehicle struck another vehicle, killing the driver of that vehicle on Tuesday, August 11.

Kendell Owens, 31, was driving a 2005 Infiniti G35 eastbound on Montauk Highway when his vehicle struck a 2006 Chrysler Sebring, driven by Richard Garcia, 45, of Shirley, who was traveling northbound on William Floyd Parkway. Garcia was transported by ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead.

Alyssa Toth, 23, of Mastic, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze northbound on William Floyd Parkway behind Garcia’s car and crashed into his car after the initial collision. She was transported to an area hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and released.

Xavier Patino, 37, of Queens, was driving a 2011 BMW X6 westbound on Montauk Highway and was struck by the first two vehicles. Patino and his four passengers, including an infant boy and a two-year-old girl, were transported to an area hospital to be checked out and were later released.

Owens was arrested and charged with Driving while Ability Impaired by Drugs and Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting Involving a Fatality. He was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was treated for minor injuries and released. He is being held at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned later today at First District Court in Central Islip.

All vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing, Detectives are asking anyone with any information about this crash to contact the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555.

(Long Island, NY) The Second Squad reports the arrest of Levittown man for Assault that occurred on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 9:55 a.m. in Hicksville.

According to detectives, Patrick Hayden, 23, was driving his 2001 Ford Taurus southbound on N. Broadway (Route 107) when he stopped in front of the Robert Chevrolet Dealership, 236 S. Broadway. After parking his vehicle he entered a 2013 Dodge Pickup Truck which was idling in front of the dealership.

Hayden continued southbound where he then stopped on S. Broadway. He exited the truck and began to punch, kick and knocked a 74 year old male victim to the ground. The victim was transported to an area hospital with multiple contusions and lacerations.

Hayden re-entered the truck continuing south to Bloomingdale Road where he entered Ultimate Gym and turned in the wallet of the owner of the truck. The gym contacted the owner which led police to the area where they located Hayden walking on Jerusalem Avenue near Constellation Road. Hayden was placed under arrest and transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The vehicle was located nearby on Albert Road.

Hayden is charged with Assault 2nd degree, Grand Larceny 2nd degree, and Grand Larceny 4th degree. He will be arraigned as soon as medically practical.

(Long Island, NY) The Seventh Squad reports the arrest of a Massapequa man on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 1:45 p.m. for a Robbery in Massapequa.

According to detectives, Daniel Brown, 25, entered the County Line Farms located at 5840 Merrick Road at 12:45 p.m. and pointed a black handgun at the female cashier, while he demanded the money from the register. Brown fled with the proceeds westbound on Merrick Road. A description of Brown was broadcast to responding officers.

Two officers from the Bureau of Special Operations conducted a canvass of the area which led them to the Budget Inn located at 400 Carmen Mill Road. While conducting their investigation the officers located Brown in a room of the motel. The proceeds and a Phanton co2 cartridge BB gun were recovered. In addition Brown was found to be in possession of 3 packages of Heroin.

Brown is charged with Robbery 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Rennert comes from a business background, having made the decision to pursue his career in sculpture over 20 years ago. His works deal with the physical or psychological challenges of the competitive corporate world, often incorporating figures dressed in business attire and symbolic objects such as briefcases and ladders. The titles work with the pieces to solidify the concepts, and sometimes they reflect on the daily struggles and achievements with a sense of humor and irony. His work has become more serious lately, exploring more on our thoughts and beliefs as a society. Businessman or not, everyone can still relate to the themes in their own personal ways. THINK BIG is the culmination of positive thinking, as the original concept started as a two-inch sculpture. Rennert is excited to bring the sculpture to New York so that everyone can indeed, “think big.”

Jim Rennert was born in 1958, and grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Salt Lake City, Utah. After 10 years of working in business Jim started sculpting in 1990. He became an expert in the lost-wax casting method, a process that harkens back to Bronze Age, which produces a duplicate metal sculpture from the original sculpture. He began exhibiting in galleries in 1993, and has since gained significant recognition. He continues to exhibit at the major art fairs in Miami, Los Angeles, and New York City, and has been featured in publications such as Sculptural Review, American Art Collector, and The Inquirer and Mirror. His work is in numerous private and public collections, including the Utah Governor’s Mansion, Terra Industries, GSL Electric, The Church Museum of History and Art, and the Granite Education Foundation.

(Long Island, NY) The First Squad reports the arrest of a Hempstead man for Unlawful Imprisonment which occurred on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 3:05 a.m. in Roosevelt.

According to detectives, Tyler Gunter, 23, arrived at his former girlfriend’s home at 3:05 a.m. and engaged in an argument which escalated to a physical confrontation. Gunter forced the 23 year old victim into his 2007 Hummer H3 and drove to his home. A short time after being forced into his home the victim was able to escape and return to her house.

While First Precinct Officers were at the victim’s home a call for an automobile accident was dispatched at 3:48 a.m. for a vehicle into a gas station at USA Gas station located at 224 Nassau Road. Gunter was found in the vehicle and transported to an area hospital where he was admitted in serious condition with major head trauma. The victim did not suffer any injuries.

Gunter is charged with Unlawful Imprisonment 1st degree. He will be arraigned when medically practical.

(Long Island, NY) For the fifth year, talented Long Island music students have received a unique opportunity to study and perform at Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts.  The program was developed by Usdan Center in 2011 and supported with a charitable grant from Bethpage Federal Credit Union.  The Usdan Center/Bethpage Scholars in the Arts program gives accomplished students, who otherwise couldn¹t attend Usdan, the opportunity to study at the country¹s largest not-for-profit summer arts day camp.  The students were chosen for their fine musicianship and for their achievements as outstanding representatives of their communities.

Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts opened its 48th season on June 29th.
