On Friday, November 6, 2015 at approximately 12:00 P.M., the subject(s) was present at Sasha located at Sunrise Mall 479 Sunrise Highway, Massapequa.

While inside the store the subject(s) removed victim’s wallet containing credit cards from victim’s pocketbook. The subject(s) made fraudulent purchases on victim’s credit cards at several locations.

(Long Island, NY) The Second Squad is investigating a Burglary that occurred on Wednesday February 3, 2016 at 4:40 a.m. in Levittown.

According to detectives, a male white subject entered a North Jerusalem Road residence through an unlocked front door armed with a knife and a lead pipe. The subject went to the second floor and awoke 3 adults, two females and one male, along with a male juvenile. He then forced the victims into a bathroom and proceeded to go through the house removing items, including the car keys to a 2005 Honda CRV and an ATM card.

A fifth male resident arrived home and was alerted to the subjects presence and locked himself in his first floor bedroom. The subject attempted to gain access by banging on the door with the pipe while the victim in the room called the police. The subject fled the scene in the victim’s Honda prior to police arrival. There were no injuries reported.

The subject is further described as 5’6” tall, 165 lbs., wearing a dark jacket, and blue latex gloves.

Dr. Sujani Reddy, associate professor of American Studies, recently authored the interdisciplinary study: “Nursing and Empire: Gendered Labor and Migration from India to the United States.” Published by The University of North Carolina Press, the 290-page book examines the lives of female Indian nurses, their migration to the United States during the Cold War, and the contexts of empire, familial relations, race and gender. Culminating years of extensive archival research and interviews, Reddy illustrates the compelling story of gender and labor history in the personal and working lives of the professional Indian women.

Dr. Kathleen Velsor, associate professor in the School of Education, recently wrote, “Re-Engaging Students for Success: Planning for the Education Teaching Performance Assessment,” a guidebook to assist students nationwide pass the new Education Teaching Performance Assessment (edTPA). The 101-page book published by Rowman &Littlefield, is designed to assist elementary teacher candidates with an educational methodology to pass the exam, which was implemented in 2014 by New York. 

Dr. Sachi Dastidar, distinguished service professor in Politics, Economics and Law has published the autobiographical nonfiction work “Mukti: Free to Be Born Again – Partitions of Indian Subcontinent, Islamism, Hinduism, Leftism and Liberation of the Faithful.” The 684-page book, published by AuthorHouse, examines the history of Muslim-majority Bangladesh and Hindu-majority West Bengal/India in post-1947 Partition of India.

(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Third Precinct Crime Section officers are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the man who stole property from a Bay Shore car dealership.

A man entered Atlantic Chevrolet, located at 1350 Sunrise Highway, on January 17 and stole 30 New York State inspection stickers.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

UPDATE: James Caffrey, 22, was arrested for the below listed crime.  He is charged with Robbery 2^nd degree and was scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, February 4 2016 at First District Court in Hempstead.

(Long Island, NY) The Fifth Squad is investigating a Robbery that occurred on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 9:30 P.M. in Elmont.

According to detectives, a male victim, 18, left work at Keyfood, located at 151 Covert Avenue and was walking westbound on Tulip Avenue, in the vicinity of Landau Avenue he was approached by a male white subject that verbally demanded money and stated “I’ll shoot you, I just got out of jail”.

The victim complied when he saw what appeared to be a handgun in the subject’s waistband. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of US currency the subject fled on foot southbound on Landau Avenue. No injuries were reported.

The subject is described as 5’9”, skinny build, mid 20’s, crooked teeth wearing dark sweatpants and a black jacket.

Detectives ask anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

(Long Island, NY) The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of a Brooklyn man for Falsifying Business Records that occurred on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 4:00 P.M. in Lynbrook.

According to the Crimes Against Property detectives, Octavian Ocasio, 44, did offer New York State vehicle inspection stickers for sale on the website Letgo.

The defendant was placed under arrest without incident by detectives in the parking lot of 603 Sunrise Highway when he produced the NYS inspection sticker for sale.

Ocasio was charged with Falsifying Business Records 2nd degree and three (3) counts of Fictitious Inspection Sticker and will be arraigned on Wednesday, February 03, 2016 at First District Court in Hempstead.

(Long Island, NY) The Fourth Squad reports the details of an arrest for Robbery that occurred on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 12:11 P.M. in Rockville Centre.

According to detectives, the male victim 27 years of age was at the Ramada Inn located at 1000 Sunrise Highway when the defendant, Steven Barrere, 24, approached him and asked for help.

Barrere led the victim to the second floor hallway where armed with a knife demanded the defendant remove his boots and clothing.

The defendant took the boots and an undisclosed amount of US currency. Fourth Precinct officers responding to a 911 call located the defendant and placed him under arrest at the scene.

Barrere is charged with Robbery 1st degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree, Unlawful Imprisonment 1st degree and Menacing 2nd degree. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at First District Court in Hempstead.

(Long Island, NY) The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of a Hempstead man on Tuesday February 2, 2016 at 7:20 a.m. in Hempstead for Disseminating Indecent Material to a Minor.

According to Crimes Against Property Squad detectives, Daniel Arturo Monrroy Pineda, 27, created an account with the social media app “ooVoo” under the screen name “Papi” and made “friend” requests to numerous female juveniles between the ages of 11 and 14.

The victim’s accepted the request where upon Pineda began sending sexually explicit pictures to the victims. A subsequent investigation was conducted which resulted in the arrest of Pineda on Tuesday, February 02, 2016 at 7:20 a.m. in front of his residence.

Detectives request that anyone who feels they may also be a victim of this crime to contact the Crimes Against Property Squad at 516-573-5275.

Pineda is charged with (10) ten counts of Disseminating Indecent Material to a Minor 2nd degree and will be arraigned on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at First District Court in Hempstead.

(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating an incident in which a man was found dead in a wooded area in Brentwood on February 2.

Two men were walking in a wooded area east of Springfield Road between Suffolk Avenue and Second Avenue, when they found a man lying in the woods at approximately 12 p.m.

The man, Michael Johnson, 29, of Central Islip, was found dead with a head injury. He was transported to the Suffolk County Medicals Examiner where an autopsy will be performed.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to contact Homicide Unit detectives at 631-852-6392 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
