(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the man who robbed a Deer Park gas station earlier this month.

A man entered Valero, located at 255 Bay Shore Road, displayed a handgun and stole money on May 5 at 10:50 p.m. The man was described as black, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and was wearing a navy blue hooded sweatshirt with jeans and light brown work boots.

A man exited the King Kullen Supermarket, located at 1235 Middle Country Road, without paying for at least $50 worth of meat products on April 25, 2015 at approximately 5 p.m.

The suspect is described as black, approximately 6 feet 5 inches tall.

(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Community College will be awarded two prestigious sportsmanship awards — a college-wide award and a second for an individual team.

For the 12th time in 20 years Suffolk County Community College Women’s Basketball Team will be awarded the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XV Sportsmanship Award for outstanding sportsmanship during the 2014-15 basketball season. The honor is presented by the Metropolitan Officials Association.

The prestigious Mickey Crowley President’s Cup for 2014-2015 is to be awarded to the college’s athletics program for best exemplifying sportsmanship throughout its entire athletics program.

“I commend our student athletes for their achievements and being acknowledged for their sportsmanship,” said Suffolk County Community College President Dr. Shaun L. McKay. “Our student athletes exemplify the character of all our students, faculty and staff.”

The College and Women’s Basketball Team will be honored at the annual Metropolitan Officials Dinner later this month.

(Long Island, NY) The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a West Hempstead man for Driving While Intoxicated that occurred on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 10:45 pm in Oceanside.

According to police, defendant Andres Collado, 27, was operating a 2004 Nissan Sentra when he rear ended a 2008 Jeep that was attempting to make a left turn on Long Beach Road, Oceanside.

Upon police arrival, the defendant was observed to have glassy red blood shot eyes, blurred speech and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.

It was also discovered that the defendants’ one month old son was secured in the back seat of the automobile. Collado was placed under arrest.

The baby was released to the mother who was at scene. Subsequent to arrest, it was determined that the above defendant had three (3) open Nassau County warrants for Criminal Contempt 1st Degree, Harassment and Violation of Probation.

(Long Island, NY) The Homicide Squad reports the arrest of Elliott Fortune, 18, of Roosevelt, on Friday, 05/15/15, in connection with a Homicide that occurred in Roosevelt on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 4:15 pm.

According to detectives, a Shot Spotter activation followed by a 911 call alerted First Precinct Police Officers to respond to 86 Park Avenue. Upon police arrival the deceased body of Sayvon Marcus Burt, 21 of Freeport was discovered outside in a nearby alley way with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased by a Nassau County Police Ambulance Medical Technician at the scene.

Fortune, the defendant, is being charged with Murder 2nd Degree, Attempted Robbery 1st Degree, Criminal Possession Weapon 2nd Degree and was arraigned on Saturday, 05/16/15 in First District Court, Hempstead.

NY) The 4th Annual North Fork Waiter Race resulted in a 1^st , 2^nd and 3^rd place victory by Claudio’s Restaurant and Claudio’s Clam Bar.  Hosted by The Market, located at 44 Front Street, Greenport, this fun fast-paced event was held rain or shine.  The Waiter Race celebrates the entire North Fork hospitality industry.  This year it also celebrates Eastern Long Island Hospital’s 110^th Anniversary and the Fitness Challenge.

The rules were simple.  Participants raced to the finish line by walking as fast as possible while balancing a stemmed wine glass filled with a beverage on a serving tray. The liquid contents of each glass was provided by beverage event sponsor Essentia Water.

(Long Island, NY) The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of a Brooklyn man for Burglary that occurred on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 10:25 pm in Elmont.

According to detectives, defendant Syed Adnan Shafquat, 30, of Brooklyn, knocked on the door of a 48 year old female victim. When the victim opened her door, the defendant pushed his way in knocking her to the ground. He then took jewelry and an IPad and fled the scene in an unknown direction.

The defendant is an associate of the victims’ daughter. After an investigation, detectives were able to arrest defendant Shafquat at his home without further incident.

The defendant is being charged with Burglary 1st Degree and was arraigned on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.

(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Huntington Station on Friday, May 15.

Brett Rainey was riding a 2000 Yamaha northbound on Walt Whitman Road when he struck a 2002 Chrysler Town and Country minivan being driven by Lucas McAfee. McAfee was traveling southbound on Walt Whitman Road, and attempted to make a left-hand turn into a parking lot when Rainey struck the front passenger side of the minivan at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Rainey, 27, of Huntington Station, was transported to Huntington Hospital where he was pronounced dead. McAfee, 18, of Fort Salonga, and his three male passengers were not injured. McAfee stayed at the scene.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. The investigation is continuing.

(Long Island, NY) First Squad detectives are investigating incidents of Graffiti that occurred during the overnight and early morning hours of Friday, May 15, 2015, in Wantagh.

According to detectives, First Precinct officers, around 7:00 am, responded to a 911 call for graffiti that was spray painted to garbage cans belonging to a Beltagh Avenue residence.

A subsequent investigation revealed that similar graffiti, involving racial, gang and sexual related “tags” had been spray painted onto residential and public properties along Beltagh Avenue and continued to the walking bridge heading towards Wantagh High School.

Additional “tags” of the same nature and means were also reported at Mepham High School on Camp Avenue in Bellmore.
