Art enthusiasts enjoyed the 5th annual edition of ArtHamptons from July 12th through 15th. This season’s exhibition celebrated the centennial birthday of Hamptons’ most beloved painter Jackson Pollack which showcased 4000 modern, post-modern and contemporary works.

The event also showcased four hundred respected artists and sixty-five prominent galleries from around the globe. Comedian Cheech Marin, best known as half of the hilarious duo Cheech & Chong was awarded with this year’s Arts Patron of the Year Award.

In our interview Mr. Marin discussed his love of art and was especially invited to promote Chicano Art. Mr. Marin states, “Chicano art is American art. My goal is to bring the term ‘Chicano’ to the forefront of the art world.”

Mr. Marin is a third generation Mexican American and has been a recipient of numerous awards for his work on behalf of Latinos, including the 2000 Creative Achievement Award from the Imagen Foundation and the 1999 ALMA Community Service Award from the National Council of La Raza and Kraft Foods. Cheech received an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts for his contributions to the creative arts from Otis College of Art & Design in Los Angeles in 2007. He currently serves on the boards of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the Smithsonian Latino Center.

I also had the chance to chat with Media Mogul Russell Simmons who discussed how his Rush Foundation for the Arts provides more than 2,000 underprivileged youths each year with access to the arts. USA Today calls Russell Simmons “one of the 25 most influential People of the past 25 years.”

He will be hosting 13th annual “Art for Life- Living in Color” upcoming gala, one of the Hampton’s premiere charity events.

Hamptonites enjoyed the Fourth Annual Martinis For Mutts Benefit on Saturday July 14th. The elegant event was at held at the beautiful home of Michael & Marcy Warren in Watermill. Guests enjoy cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, music and auctions.

The event also honored Wendy Diamond, founder and editor of Animal Fair Magazine and Dina Manzo, star of HGTV’s Dina’s Party for their ongoing support of the organization’s mission to stop the senseless killing and cruelty of companion animals within our nation.

The benefit is held each year to donate funds to Last Chance Animal Rescue.

Last Chance Animal Rescue is a charitable, not-for profit organization. The organization was established to save the lives and fight against cruelty to companion animals such as dogs and cats. The organization rescues animals that are about to be killed. Last Chance Animal Rescue works with local veterinarians for spay-neuter/medical services until permanent placement is secured in a pre-screened loving family residence. Sag Harbor celebrated Rock the Dock, Bay Street Theatre’s Summer Gala Benefit on July 21st. Supporters enjoyed cocktails, dining and dancing. Auction items included accommodations for a party of six in a Wimco Luxury Villas in St .Barts or a luxury stay at Four Seasons in Costa Rica! In addition the night’s gala guests also participated in an afterparty at B. Smith’s Restaurant overlooking the spectacular Sag Harbor port.

Guests also enjoyed a special performance by sensational Tony-award winning Lillias White who will be starring in World Premiere of the new musical “Big Maybelle: Soul of The Blues” at the Bay Street Theatre.

The Long Island International Film Expo celebrated their 15th anniversary in Bellmore, Long Island. Filmmakers, celebrities, actors and members of the press gathered on July 19th as the film festival came to a close.

Hollywood Movie Actor and Film Legend Robert Vaughn was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the closing party on Thursday, July 19th, 2012 inside the Bellmore theater.

Best known as the Character Napoleon Solo from the hit 1960’s TV show “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” Mr. Robert Vaughn is an Academy Award-nominated American actor famous for stage, film and television work. Mr. Vaughn has appeared in over thirty films.

Vaughn’s first notable acting credit was in “The Young Philadelphians” in 1959 for which he received a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a motion picture. Shortly after Robert Vaughn portrayed a cowboy and gunman Lee in “The Magnificent Seven” in 1960.

With the exception of Actors Eli Wallach and Rico Alaniz, Vaughn is the only surviving member of the title cast of the original 1960 film. The cast included: Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn and Brad Dexter.

This year the big winners included the film “Junction” which received four awards and “Excuse Me For Living” starring Robert Vaughn received the award for Best Trailer.

Actress and one of the stars of the film “Excuse me for Living” Melissa Archer who plays Robert Vaughn’s daughter in the film presented the award to Vaughn as he approached the stage. Writer/Producer/Director Ric Klass accepted the EMFL trailer award and revealed how honored he was to have Actor Robert Vaughn in his film.

After accepting the award and giving his acceptance speech, Vaughn told a funny Hollywood story. Before filming the “Magnificent Seven” Director John Sturges asked Vaughn if he knew any other young actors that could play a tall lanky cowboy. Vaughn replied, “Yeah I went to junior college with a good actor friend of mine, Jimmy Coburn.” “Do you know where I can find this actor,” Sturges inquired. Vaugnn revealed, “Yeah, he is shacking up with some black chick in Greenwich Village smoking dope.” The audience roared.

Vaughn’s film careers have spanned over sixty years and he continues to work at the age of eighty years old making independent film and character roles on TV and commercials.

(Long Island, N.Y.) Hampton supporters gathered for a romantic evening under the stars to celebrate a traditional Hawaiian Moonlight Luau in Quogue for East End Hospice.

Their annual gala was held on June 30th, 2012 at the beautiful and palatial Sandacres private estate on Quantuck Bay in Quogue. Over 600 participators attended this Hawaiian inspired gala and charity event. Mr. Gordon Werner was honored with the prestigious Good Samaritan Award for his continued efforts. Mr. Werner gives generously of his time and talents to East End Hospice and to many other organizations in the Hamptons. The East End Hospice event has flourished into one of the much anticipated charity galas of the summer season.

East End Hospice is a New York State Certified Hospice providing an individualized plan of care for terminally ill patients and their families and loved ones through a coordinated interdisciplinary team of skilled professionals and volunteers.

East End Hospice’s mission is to create social, emotional and spiritual support. The organization enlists a home-care program with short term in-patient support when needed. Their care provides pain management, symptom control and 24-hour access to care.

The organization provides education, guidance and support for all caregivers for families and loved ones and for members of the East End community.

East End Hospice does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, handicap, sexual orientation, age or ability to pay in admission or access to treatment or employment in its programs or activities.

Priscilla Ruffin’s mission statement reveals “I am proud of my long relationship with the East End Hospice board, from the early years when we were in formation, to today when we are a mature organization. It is not easy to be a member of a volunteer board, with such substantial duties and responsibilities. Not the least of these is to be sure that we have adequate funds to carry out our mission. Recent years have been difficult times for health care as we all know, to resolve the ever-widening disparity between what insurance will pay for services rendered, and what those services actually cost. I note with tremendous pride that in eighteen years East End Hospice has finished every single year in the black – often by a slim margin, but with no year ending in deficit despite rising costs. This achievement reflects assiduous work by the board in fundraising projects and events, and in community campaigns and generous individual gifts.

Proceeds benefited the Southampton Historical Museum. The Southampton Colonial Society now known as the Southampton Historical Museum was established in 1898 and incorporated in 1910. In the beginning the Society collected and exhibited historical objects and documents relating to the history and development of Southampton, organized pageants, and gave lectures on antiques. By the 1990s the Rogers Mansion property had expanded to include 12 historic structures including a one-room schoolhouse, a colonial era barn, and a 19th century paint shore. The museum is open year-round with changing exhibits on historic topics, a research center, and extensive education programs for schoolchildren and adults.

Despite severe thunder storms Hamptonites enjoyed Love Heals at Luna Farm 2012 which served as the culmination of Love Heals’ 20th anniversary celebration.

The much anticipated event was set on a private horse farm. Fashion Designer Charlotte Ronson, Hilary Rhoda, Andrew Saffir and Designer Daniel Benedict hosted the evening that featured authentic South Carolina barbeque, fresh summertime cocktails, a silent auction and dancing under the stars.

All proceeds benefited Love Heals, the Alison Gertz Foundation for AIDS Education.

A-listers that also attended included Rebecca Minkoff as well as Super Model Nicole Trunfio.

Love Heals, the Alison Gertz Foundation for AIDS Education empowers our youth in the fight against HIV. The organizations HIV-positive speakers are putting a face on the epidemic. Love Heals empowerment programs are training a new generation of community educators and activists. Love Heals also established and distributes educational materials, shares its expertise and advocates for young people’s right to HIV/AIDS education.

They do this in partnership with hundreds of schools and community groups throughout Manhattan and the surrounding areas. Their mission is reaching both young people and those individuals who impact their lives and placing a special emphasis on outreach to high-risk communities.

I had the chance to chat with Co-founder Dini von Mueffling who explained why the organization was established.

Alison Gertz was infected with HIV through a single sexual encounter when she was only sixteen. After discovering she was stricken with AIDS, Ali made her story public in an effort to help others. As a result she became an internationally recognized spokesperson for AIDS awareness and prevention.

Ali devoted her last years to providing teenagers with the information they needed to protect themselves from contracting HIV. She knew that if it had happened to her, it could happen to anyone.

After Ali passed away in 1992 her three best friends, Stefani Greenfield, Victoria Leacock Hoffman and Dini von Mueffling, continued her mission by cofounding Love Heals. Today the organization reaches more than 40,000 young people each year.

(Long Island, N.Y.) God’s Love We Deliver held its annual Midsummer Night Drinks gala on June 16th. This year the organization celebrated its 12th year with many supporters. Midsummer Night Drinks has flourished to be one of the most anticipated events of the Hamptons summer season.

Midsummer Night Drinks marks one of the four “signature” events that the organization holds during the course of the year. It is also the only event that is held in the Hamptons.

The fundraiser was held at the perfectly manicured landscaped Woodhouse Park, the home of Tony Ingrao and Randy Kemper in East Hampton.

The organization hosts four “Signature” charity events throughout the year: Midsummer Night Drinks, Authors In Kind, Golden Heart Awards, and the Race to Deliver. God’s Love We Deliver events are an important part of their continuing efforts and mission in raising funds in donating nearly 20% of the operating revenue that allows the organization to provide the services that are much needed.

Abstract Artist Rosalind Brenner exhibited her artwork at Ashawagh Hall Springs in East Hampton on June 16th to an overwhelming crowd of art enthusiasts.

Rosalind Brenner is owner and president of Manor Art Glass Studio in East Hampton, New York. Her abstract artwork and unique designs have won her continuous commissions. Some of her art includes new work, restorations in ecclesiastic settings and department stores throughout the country. Her art glass is displayed in landmark constructions in Manhattan including the Chrysler Building, The New School, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. Her paintings and art glass are seen in art collectors’ homes throughout the country.

Rosalind has painted on glass and created gouache presentations for her stained glass since the inception of her studio in 1972. Ms. Brenner has been influenced and inspired by two mentors, Benoit Gilsoul and Robert Cariola, both have shared their knowledge of glass art and painting with her and she had a three-year apprenticeship at The Greenland Studio in New York City. There she worked on the restoration of stained glass from the Cloisters and the Metropolitan Museum.

In 1992 Rosalind began experimenting in collages with paints in watercolors, oils and acrylics.

Ms. Brenner’s art pushes the limits and thinks out of the box with her unusual paintings into the realm of the contemporary by blending her own re-purposed artwork and materials and experimenting with techniques to explore concepts and ideas. Her work is a blending of fusion of the observed and the purely imaginative. She enjoys painting inner landscapes ranging from luminous and evocative abstraction to forms from nature. She also enjoys creating art with various subjects including women, calligraphy, figures, creatures and music. Her stained glass background is evident in her use of hues, line and shape. Rosalind received her MFA in poetry from Sarah Lawrence College and often begins a visual work with a verbal concept drawn onto the support that becomes partially obscured as the image emerges.

Ms. Brenner recently published a book of poetry incorporating her art images.

This past weekend Hamptonites enjoyed the 16th Annual Heart in the Hamptons Ball. This year the honorees included Distinguished Service Award recipient Jeffrey W. Moses M.D. Professor of Medicine at Columbia University College of Physician and Distinguished Heart Health Achievement Award recipient Registered Dietitian Layne Lieberman-Liehelson.

Dr. Moses is an internationally recognized intervention cardiologist and has performed more than 15,000 interventional procedures. He has authored over six hundred publications and has served as lead investigator for numerous national and international clinical studies that have demonstrated the effective and safety of coronary stent placement.

Ms. Lieberman-Liebelson has been a driving force behind the annual Heart of the Hamptons Ball since its inception. As a continued logistics chair, heart-healthy menu consultant, spokesperson, board member and food writer, Layne is a leader and innovator the health food industry.

Pink & Black Tie Gala, Smart Transition Group host Summer Gala Aboard the World Yacht and Hamptonites Kick off with Planned Parenthood Benefit at Silas Marder Gallery in Bridgehampton

(Long Island, N.Y.) The Pink & Black Tie Gala celebrated their fourth Annual Charity Ball at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in celebration of May being Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Philantropists, supporters and contributors came at the end of the month to celebrate and bring awareness.

This year the American Cancer Society’s Fourth Annual Pink & Black Tie Gala celebrated Honorees “Made in Brooklyn”. The gala is one of the leading charitable events of the year in Brooklyn, returning to Stage 6 at Steiner Studios. Each year the event brings together corporate sponsors, businesses, healthcare and social leaders, and supporting celebrities.

Ms. Stacy London, host from the TLC Network “What Not to Wear” for the fourth consecutive year hosted the event and shared some encouraging news as we spoke on the pink carpet.

“There are two things that are close to my heart, finding a cure for Cancer and Brooklyn. This event gets me motivated about both. This all came about by someone asking me if I would help do a makeover for a woman to give a speech who had triple negative breast cancer, a double mastectomy and reconstruction. She had been through a great deal of rehabilitation and was not feeling connected to her femininity, her sexuality or her beauty. Through all of this Style has a place in terms of what Cancers does psychologically to you” revealed Stacy.

Stacy London is one of America’s premier style experts, assisting women to elevate their confidence by establishing and celebrating their personal style. Stacy joined The Learning Channel in 2002 as one of the original hosts of “What Not to Wear” after years of styling experience in fashion editorial for such publications as American Vogue and Mademoiselle. She has worked with A-listers such as Kate Winslet and Katie Holmes and consulted for designers such as Vivienne Tam and Rebecca Taylor.

Comedian Chuck Nice served as auctioneer for the event. For eight years Mr. Nice provided comic relief to the Radio Chick show entertaining all who would listen to the funny to New York’s radio air waves. During that time Chuck was equally busy making a name for himself on the small screen. He is a regular contributor to the Today Show as well as an occasional substitute host. (Long Island, N.Y.) Conscientious caregivers, physicians, media and celebrities gathered to give their support for the National Meningitis Association (NMA) annual Give Kids a Shot Gala at landmark New York Athletic Club located in the affluent neighborhood of Central Park South.

The worthy benefit was all about saving lives on April 23rd to support those who work tirelessly to fight against meningitis, a vaccine preventable deadly disease that has stricken the lives of thousands of our youngsters.

During cocktails guests and supporters enjoyed the silent auction which ranged from expensive rare wines to glamorous vacations while viewing photographs of individuals who were succumbed by Meningitis.

During the event I chatted with President and Founder Lynn Bozof. Ms Bozof talked about her son Evan at the age of twenty passing away on April 20th, 1998. As a result of contracting this meningococcal disease, he had both arms and legs amputated and that still did not save his life. Evan was a college junior, honor student and pitcher on his university baseball team. During that time Ms. Bozof was unaware that a vaccine existed that could have saved his life.

Later that evening contributors dined on a fabulous dinner and listened to a welcoming speech presented by NMA president Lynn Bozof. The elegant gala was emceed by Emmy Award winning actor Richard Thomas who has been a compassionate supporter since day one.

Actor Thomas introduced star of stage and screen, two-time Tony Award winner James Naughton who performed his rendition of “Beware My Foolish Heart.” I was able to converse with Mr. Naughton before dinner during cocktails. During our interview he stated, “Gary Springer who is a publicist, son of a wonderful publicist, John Springer, has a terrific son of his own named Nick Springer. When Nick was about eleven years old Nick was stricken with Spinal Meningitis and lost part of all four limbs, so Gary’s family has been in our thoughts for a long time. This is my second year at the NMA Gala. Last year I emceed it because their long time friend and a good friend of mine, Richard Thomas who had been their emcee for the first bunch of years was unavailable so I stood in for Richard. We have done five plays together in LA, Williamstown and Broadway and this year Gary asked me to come back and sing a few songs.”

The event celebrated Honorees Jeri Acosta & Jerri Greenwell who received the Moms on Meningitis Award and Sara Herbert-Galloway & Barry J. Klarberg; Monarch Wealth & Business Management received the NMA’s Nancy Ford Springer Inspiration Award for their long standing support of NMA.

Ms. Galloway is a devoted and dedicated philanthropist who is involved with several charities. She resides in several locations between Greenwich, CT., Southampton, NY and Manhattan.

Her education as a Registered Nurse and specialty in ICU Trauma and Neurology has helped shape her ability to empathize with those in distress. As an Elite Model, Sara traveled the world and discovered knowledge about various societies and cultures. She has lived in Manhattan and Europe for several years working in numerous television, print and radio campaigns as both a model and actress. For many years she had the recurring role of a nurse on soap operas and was the model/spokesperson for Keri Lotion internationally for three years.

Her beautiful children are her greatest accomplishments. They are also involved with various charities and perform a lot of community service as well.

I also had a chance to chat with Nissan Representative Courtney Thomas who talked about the New York City Cab of the Future. “This is the first car that will be designed as a taxi for the comfort and the safety of the driver and the passengers in mind. This will be the first taxi to be crash test rated with the partition in place, a very important feature. We want to make sure all the passengers are nice and safe. The comfort of the driver and passengers are the utmost importance to us. There is a standard six long adjustable driver seat including lumbar support, nice breathable insert material, a built in navigation system also very helpful and there is also a carbon filter in the headline which absorbs odors,” revealed Courtney. The new cab will be on the streets of Manhattan in October 2013.

The Chevrolet has always been a favorite for the middle class demographic. This year the 2014 Chevrolet Impala was a winner in capturing their audience with continuing reliance on a front-wheel-drive platform. (Long Island, N.Y.) Media and baseball fans gathered at The Official New York City Movie kickoff party for former New York Yankee and Texas Ranger Baseball Player Billy Sample’s upcoming hilarious film “REUNION 108” at Foundation Cocktail Lounge located in lower Manhattan on Essex Street.

The synopsis of this comedy not only explores the sport of baseball but behind the scenes and follows our favorite sports and baseball players in the most intimate scenarios. The film takes us …behind the doors and under the sheets!! A no holds barred behind the scenes and in your face look into the world of professional baseball.

During our interview charming former Yankee Billy Sample spoke about his love of baseball and “Old Hollywood.” “I enjoy movies, I watch Robert Osborne on TCM and he and I are really tight, only he doesn’t know it yet” Billy revealed.

Mr. Sample also enjoys writing so he decided to document and share some of the interesting stories he encountered as a baseball player. “I thought I have the ability to write. I have always been a writer and I had some unique stories to tell so ‘REUNION 108’ is one of those collections of stories. It’s an edgy satirical comedy with parody, R-rated, a lot like me. It’s about two generations of minor league ballplayers returning for a reunion,” stated Mr. Sample.

Billy was raised and educated in Salem, Virginia. He was a proud graduate from Salem’s Andrew Lewis High School in 1973. Between studies he practiced football, basketball, and baseball. Still a youngster, Billy triumphantly scored the winning touchdown in a 1971 state AAA quarterfinal game. After much success in sports Sample enrolled at Madison College now known as James Madison University for three years and was later drafted by the Texas Rangers in 1976.

Sample’s record was astounding nailing his first major league pitch in 1978. Later he accomplished the Topps All Rookie Team in 1979 and had his longest hitting streak of 19 games in 1981. Billy was the tenth toughest to strike out of the game. Sample finished his baseball career with an average of .272.

Mr. Sample decided to switch careers and worked as a broadcaster/writer for the Braves, Seattle Mariners, and California Angels. He has also contributed to NPR, CBS Radio, ESPN, and MLB.com.

Sample’s work has been published in Sports Illustrated and The New York Times and was one of the columnists at the inception of USA Today’s Baseball Weekly (now Sports Weekly). Mr. Sample also served as a baseball consultant for Showtime’s production Joe Torre “Curveballs Along the Way,” The production chronicled the Yankees season of 1996.

Sample’s children are also sports enthusiasts and athletes. His daughter, Nikki, lettered in track (javelin) at the University of Rhode Island and his oldest son, Ian, caught 10 of Colt Brennan’s NCAA record 58 touchdown passes at the University of Hawaii in 2006. Later Ian played football in Japan.

The film is also directed by James Suttles, from documentaries to feature films, James Suttles has always collaborated in the world of art and storytelling through films. James discovered his passion of filmmaking as a youngster creating and editing short films based on Richard Connell’s favorite “The Most Dangerous Game” and W. W. Jacobs’ “The Monkey’s Paw.”

His love of motion pictures led him to produce the award-winning documentary “Three Cultures of Appalachia.” The story unfolds by telling us of three very different women, an African-American, European immigrant and a Cherokee Indian growing up in the Appalachian Mountains. Although these are three very different and unique women their beliefs and values were surprisingly similar.

Manhattanites and supporters gathered for the Spread the Seeds Valentines Auction benefiting Seeds of Africa, a nonprofit that provides educational resources to poor students in Zimbabwe. Seeds of Africa’s mission is not only to provide food and shelter but to promote education to poor underprivileged members of African society. Seeds of Africa Fund subscribes to the philosophy of “development through education.” Their nonprofit organization thrives on this important philosophy that education is the most powerful and effective way to bring independence, success and prosperity. Seeds of Africa believes in providing the proper education and building the necessary schools in Africa that will eliminate poverty. Their plan of action is to transform African youths into scholars and entrepreneurs of the next generation.

As a philanthropist she has contributed in assisting in saving elephants in the Congo. Her mission is also making the Seeds of Africa Knowledge Center project a modern technology school to be structured in Mutare, Zimbabwe. Katelyn Lane-Halperns’ background in fashion ranges from public relations, product launching and branding for Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton and Gucci.

Katelyn Lane-Halpern statement revealed “Through my support, if I can help Seeds of Africa touch and transform lives of children in Zimbabwe through education and through the realization of the Seeds of Africa Knowledge Center which will serve thousands of African children for generations to come, If I can do this I believe that my role as an Ambassador will have been worthwhile. I believe that we can all do something to make a difference and combining education and technology is a critical way to empower children in Africa for long term benefits, I’m proud to be a supporter.”

Proceeds from the event will be donated towards the construction of a school in Zimbabwe, The Seeds of Africa Knowledge Center.

TV Host Cognac Wellerlane interviews Owner Lucette Bloomgarden and Artist Steven Colucci at Belenky Brothers Art Gallery in SoHo.

“A Concept in Motion” a collection of vibrant new mixed media works by critically acclaimed Westhampton Artist Steven Colucci was recently unveiled at a reception at the Belenky Brothers Gallery right in the heart of SoHo located at 91 Grand Street, New York 10013 on Friday, February 17th from 6:00 to 9:30 pm.

The exhibition was curated by Jacquelyn Lipp from Streetwater Arts curating and event planning business to promote acclaimed and emerging artists.

The art event benefited American Friends of Herzog Hospital. Philanthropist and Artist Steven Colucci divides his time between New York City and Westhampton Beach. He has exhibited his neo-impressionist works of art at gallery venues including: March Hachem Gallery, MOMA, The National Arts Club, Belenky Gallery and Grant Gallery in SoHo. Mr. Colucci’s art pieces are in many private collections around the globe. Colucci’s philanthropic work contributes research and care for Alzheimer’s disease. A portion of the proceeds from this sale of his paintings will be donated to American Friends of Herzog Hospital in Jerusalem.

The Herzog Hospital was established in 1894 in efforts to improve the quality of life for those suffering from neurological disorders, mental illness and aging.

Steven Colucci’s journey as an artist has taken him from the streets of Paris learning mime under the direction of Marcel Marceau to the streets of New York. Art critics have praised his work as neo-post impressionism. Art experts state Collucci represents an entirely new movement in the arts and modern ballet has influenced decades of his body of work.
